So, I wrote this for my mom for Christmas back in 2009. She knows I write 'stories about TV shows' but don't worry, she doesn't know about my journal (that would be a disaster!). I made myself not take on so many Christmas projects this year but I still wanted to post something for ya'll, so I flipped through some of my older fic and decided on this.
My mom was a huge Luke/Lorelai shipper and I wanted to give Lorelai a nice, sweet future with all her loved ones. And Christmas snow. Which I also thought this fic was appropriate to post right now since, though I generally hate the winter weather here, I am lamenting how it is 40 degrees out with absolutely no snow on the ground and Christmas in less than 48 hours. What's up with that?
Future-Au, General fic featuring Lorelai on Christmas morning. With a major Dean mention. Some Luke/Lorelai. And happiness all around. Also, babies! Rated G and 640 words.

Author's Notes: It’s kind of sap but I just thought Lorelai deserves a nice, sweet, perfect Christmas morning. And a nice, sweet future, while we’re at it. This is for My Mom, because it’s Christmas, and she needs warm squishy fun and for there is no bigger Gilmore Girls fan than her. And, lets be honest, she’s a total Luke/Lorelai shipper.
Dedication: Mom - Hope this warms you inside out! Love you and Merry Christmas!!
She felt the mattress tilt, heard the springs squeak as he slid out of the bed they shared. She reached for him but quickly withdrew. It was too cold for even an arm outside the warm cocoon of blankets and her eyelids were too heavy to open, so she only listened as he slipped into his shoes and crept out of the bedroom.
The click of a door let her know that he was across the hallway, looking in on the babies. And then the heavy settling of wood as he made his way down the stairs into the living room.
She knew it was a big day, an important day for the family, a first day, but the warmth and pull of flannel anchored her back into a hazy sleep. Somewhere in her depths of consciousness, in swirled dreams mixed with reality, she heard the sounds of Michel’s voice, and Rory’s, and briefly she thought Lane or Mrs. Kim and something else so familiar and yet just out of her mind’s reach.
It was the sounds of her house, her home, her family and it was sweet and joyous and over-whelming. She choked awake then, on her side of the bed with tears in her eyes and his pillow somehow wedged between her shoulder and her open mouth. She struggled out from under the covers just enough to sit up and reached for the Snuggie hanging over the bed’s headboard. She pulled it around her shoulders in a vain attempt to keep out the hard cold.
She wondered if it had snowed during the night. Or maybe it was still snowing. Or maybe it was still night. What time was it anyway? She glanced over at the bedside table and the old-fashioned Betty Boop bell alarm clock.
That’s when she saw it, the present, sitting on the little cherry-wooded table, not-so-neatly wrapped in paper bearing the Transformers all wearing Santa hats. Her first Christmas present of the year. She felt slightly more giddy than a woman with a grown child should, but she couldn‘t bring herself to care.
The tag read: To Lorelai From Dean - I know you have a man to do these things for you now, but this made me think of you. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
She smiled and shook the box, but with no obvious clues forthcoming, she quickly tore off the wrapping paper and shucked it unceremoniously on the floor.
SAFE, HUMANE AND ICK FREE! - the box displayed on top. On the side it showed a picture of a yellow container no bigger than a butter tray. Under the picture it read: Catch a Mouse in this Sealed Container and then Release it Outside. You’ll Never Have to Touch Another Rodent Again! NO FUSS, NO MUSS AND NO MESS!!
Lorelai smiled. It was ridiculous and clearly bought off an infomercial and she loved it.
Voices floated and flitted up the stairs then - April, her mother, her Rory, and of course, over them all, her Luke. She slid out of bed and into her slippers. Lorelai went over to the bedroom’s only window and pressed her face against the glass.
It had snowed in the night. In fact, it was still snowing even as she stood there staring out at the newfound winter wonderland. For as far as her eyes could see, Christmas had fallen over Stars Hollow.
Across the hall, in the nursery, both girls erupted in their traditional early morning shrieking. Gilly started first and then continued to escalate until little Lizabeth followed in suit, a harmonious medley of cries.
Lorelai took one last look out her window, at this town she loved, from this house she called home, with this family she called hers. “Merry Christmas, Stars Hollow,” she whispered. “And God bless us, every one.”
The End
