What Not To Wear is gone forever now. This show really was about so much more than clothes and it took me so long to realize it. My sister made the mistake of introducing me to it on an episode where they made some woman throw out her vintage rock tees - (which I am STILL a little miffed about) - and it took a long time for Stacy & Clinton to convince me that they weren't the devil. (To be fair, they still might be, but they are fashionable devils, at the least). I was 25 when the show started, just figuring out my post-adolescent style and learning how to dress my unique body type and even though it took awhile for me to admit it, I learned a lot from them. They win everyone over, in the end, don’t they? So, thank you Stacy & Clinton for helping me grow from a girl into a woman!
In other reality TV news, for those of you who don’t know yet, Hoarders was officially canceled. I’m not surprised given how long we had gone without word of a renewal. Still, I will miss it. (Corey & Matt most of all, but hopefully the new show they want to work on together will come to fruition). Maybe it’s bad to say, but it always helped me when looking at my own parents and the messed up ways in which they both live their lives, to watch this show and understand how much worse it could really be. Plus, I feel like the show genuinely helped people.
My two favorite reality shows are now gone. My sister and I made noises of distress when I had to take them out of the Season Pass lineup. Actually, the other day I was doing the weekly To Do List on the Tivo and I saw the missing time slot on Friday where What Not To Wear used to be and my eyes filled with tears and then I went into our recorded shows and saw the Law & Order: SVU I had to watch that was Richard Belzer’s last episode ever - (John Munch is a character that has been around for 20 years now) - and I just burst into tears. It was the saddest fucking thing. I was somewhat relieved then, when in the middle of the night, I ended up starting my Awesome Time of Month. But those were still both tear-worthy events. (For the record, I did okay with Munch’s last episode until they did the flash-thing at the end, black-n-whited a clip from Homicide over him at his SVU desk - those mother-fuckers with the feels!).
Uh, so, that’s how TV has made me cry lately. I also have some angry thoughts about a few shows this year and some thoughts about how some things could be doing it better and some thoughts about how certain shows (Arrow!) have really stepped up their game, but those feel like they would take a lot of thought process and that is just something I have very little of at the moment. Anyways, how’s the TV season treating you all?
