Goin' To The Zoo, Zoo, Zoo!

So, I had a pretty awesome weekend! My glasses came in, for one, so I am no longer straining my eyes. Then I had therapy, whatever, but after I got home, The BFF and I watched The Avengers (Science!Bros FTW!), which was happy-making. But then, best of all, was that on Saturday hiyacynth + Husband & Munchy P (who is 2 ½ now and talking up a storm about everything!) came for a visit. We hung out, grilled out (The BFF is still the Master Of The Grill), Munchy played in the wading pool, then we watched some Community. And on Sunday we all went to the zoo! I haven’t been to the zoo in 6 or 7 years, so this was nice.

They have this great new Safari Exhibit at our zoo. You have to ride the tram to get there (which Munchy liked because he really wanted to ride a ‘train’) and it’s all set-up like a National Park, where a whole group of the animals are just roaming free in a large natural area. So when you look out over the fence, you can see giraffes, zebras, antelopes, all grazing side by side like some real life version of The Lion King. Also there is a place where you can feed the giraffes! You are up on an elevated walkway and the giraffes’ heads are right at your eye level. You buy lettuce to feed them and they will stick their heads right up over the fence looking for a treat. And if nobody is feeding them anything, they will kind of head-butt your arms looking for more food. When they go to take the lettuce, they stick their tongues out and their tongues are not quite-almost black and super long, like cartoonishly unfurling and unfurling. I was a little freaked out when I held my hand out with the lettuce and the giraffe stuck his tongue out and like for a split second, my whole hand was right inside the giraffe’s mouth! Then he took the lettuce and pulled away. I FED A MOTHER-FUCKING GIRAFFE!! It. Was. Awesome. After we were done with that, Munchy P says, “That was a cool ride.” It definitely was!

The rest of the Safari Exhibit was closed-off sections of animals that couldn’t be in the big open area; monkeys, birds, wild boars, etc. They also had a carousel with various animals you could ride; a gorilla, a giant grasshopper, a baby giraffe, a snow leopard, etc. Munchy loved that so much he threw a fit when he had to get off. Then we went to the petting zoo and you guys, THE BUNNIES WERE NAMED MERRY, PIPPIN & SAMWISE! And there was this sign that read, ‘The Harry Potter Goats’ and I was all, “Why are they Harry Potter goats?” and we looked and THEY WERE ALL NAMED FOR HARRY POTTER CHARACTERS!. They had a Harry, Ron, Hermoine, Luna, Neville, Severus, Remus, Ginny, Fred & George. You should have heard the squeal of delight I made when I saw they had a Fred & George! Also, little freaky how much Severus the Goat looked like Snape. Geeks run the zoo! Then we got ice cream and went home.

My sister had Monday and Tuesday off as well, but those were less exciting days and I accidentally watched World War Z and it would be another 500 words if I went into how much that sucked, so No, Nope, Nonono, that’s a whole different post. Suffice to say, if you loved the book, DON’T SEE THE MOVIE. It’s okay, I have now made my life better and cleansed that shit from my brain by watching copious amounts of A-Team fanvids. (I could explain why but let’s just go with “Because I <3 Face & Murdock, shut up!”).

How were your weekends?
