I thought maybe a few Real Life updates were in order.
Apparently The Nephew is not adjusting to the changes of a new baby very well. On top of it, he’s had the flu and his mom is home from work everyday right now and his whole schedule is all messed up. My brother says he’s been having some issues but he won’t talk to either of them and he thought maybe The Nephew’d talk to me instead. I was obviously happy to help, but it was really upsetting to hear The Nephew crying over the phone and saying that he doesn’t know what’s wrong with him. The Nephew just doesn’t handle change very well and he is so much like his dad in that. I remember when my brother was about 6 and we came home from school to find my mom had moved all the furniture around. I thought my brother was going to have a nervous breakdown just from the furniture being moved. And here is The Nephew having all this stuff to deal with. Together The Nephew and I figured out a plan for him, taking a ‘chill out’ minute and then writing in his journal. Sometimes writing it out just helps you feel better.
Also, my mom got bad news that she has to have all her lower teeth pulled. I’ll be straight up, the one good thing about my life expectancy being shorter than most, is that I’ll probably die before I lose my teeth, because that shit freaks me out for some reason. And not to sound harsh, but in general, I don’t have a ton of sympathy for my mom’s health issues - on some things anyways. I mean, she can’t help that she has medical problems but she also never does anything to improve the situation. Her doctor wanted her to see a nutritionist. She didn’t do it. He wanted her to drink Ensure every day. She didn’t do it. He wanted her to go to physical therapy. She didn’t do it. So it’s hard when she says, “Why does this stuff happen to me?” when I know there are some things she could have prevented/delayed by following her doctors advice. But this? This thing with her teeth could not have been prevented and is clearly awful. She has this issue where she doesn’t make enough saliva, and dry gums means unhealthy gums means unhealthy teeth. There’s no way around it. Worse yet, with no saliva, they don’t know if dentures will work for her, so she may just be without bottom teeth, which is just terrible all around.
On the brighter side of things, my dad sent me money! When I moved into my first apartment, I never had enough money left after paying my bills for anything extra, so my dad started giving me like $50 a month so I could see a movie or go with my friends to Detroit to a club or a concert. When I moved in with my mom, Dad started giving me a little more. I think mostly he felt bad that he couldn’t help more, since physically I needed a female care provider. But the money has always been greatly appreciated. But since living with my sister, he knows that she is better positioned to help with the smaller stuff. Still, he helps with the big things. Like he paid for all the gas on my trip to Vermont for D’s wedding. And when I wanted to go to a Supernatural con, I had enough money for myself but obviously I can’t go alone and need someone to assist me, so he paid for my then-BFF’s ticket, so someone could come along. So I’m not sure why he sent me this check, since I have no major trips planned, but it was nice. I had been making a list and trying to figure how to save for something special for my sister’s 40th birthday this June, getting my hair cut, taking the cats to the groomers, and also The Nephew’s, The Canadian Nephew’s & The BFF’s birthdays in May. Plus, I just threw out a garbage bag size of clothes that didn’t fit anymore, so I needed new clothes. I couldn’t afford it all so I had to cut the new clothes from my list. With the money Dad just sent me, I was actually able to go out and get myself some new stuff; two new tees, a new blouse and a new dress. I called him and thanked him and he was happy to hear I got to treat myself a little.
