Harold's employment update...day 34
A few weeks ago Harold had an interview with Kaiser (huge HMO)...thought it went well. The manager of the outpatient pharmacy said he would call me on Friday Sept whatever...the first day of my vacation. So we land in Orlando and I have a voice mail to call that pharmacy. So I call the guy and he says 'HAROLD WE WANT YOU..CAN YOU JOIN KAISER??" So I immediately say "hell yeah". Now it's a part time gig (according to him no less than 30 hours per week) so this means working at least 3-4 days a week. Even better, I get the same benefits as full time employees, free medical (duh it's Kaiser), etc. Happy happy joy joy.
Now I don't know if I told you guys I picked up some part time work in October helping out some folks in east L.A. And I have to admit I like working there and they like having me there too. I know how to use their computer system which was probably a big plus. I think I mentioned I also joined some pharmacy staffing agencies too.
Now here's the reason for the title of today's story...While I was on the cruise, Kaiser HR called and said "you need to take a drug test between October 2-3. Failure to do so could cancel your employment". I also received a call from one of the staffing agencies to take a drug test also. So imagine the horror on my face Sunday when I heard the voice mail. So Monday I called the HR woman and told her "I WAS ON A CRUISE IN THE CARIBBEAN. CAN I RESCHEDULE OR SOMETHING??" Now this woman is telling me that nobody told her I was on vacation. So I had until Wednesday to see the local HR dept for Kaiser West L.A. and explain them the situation. Also BRING ANY EVIDENCE THAT YOU WERE ON VACATION...FLIGHT TICKET FOR EXAMPLE. Now as anybody knows, when you check at the gate, they take your ticket (least they do on Southwest). So on Tuesday I get to Kaiser West L.A. and I have the room key with my name and dates of the cruise. I brought souvenir t-shirts from Cozumel and Grand Cayman. I even brought my camera full of pictures. Now this other woman was cool...I believe you no problem. Just get the drug test. Whew.
Now as for the staffing agency...I called them and the company doing the drug test explaining the situation and they said "fine just come on in"
So today...I had to pee in the cup twice. Drank plenty of water all day long and now I am happy with an empty bladder...TMI Harold.
