I've got a Silver machine

Took a long ride around the thumb (of Michigan) on Saturday. Gorgeous fucking day, and a lot of fun. There will be a complete post about this soonish. I just need to get the pictures ready.

Last night was try and do some work to the Silverwing night. I replaced all the ghetto bolts and crap with gen-u-wine Honda Ripped-off-a-Silverwing-in-a-junkyard brand parts. Was a HUGE pain to get done right, but now it's done. The fairing speakers and the optional instrument cluster cover up the windshield securing nuts, so you basically have to take the whole top of the fairing apart to do this. The previous owner obviously decided doing so was too much work and this is why it was a mess. It's all fixed now though after much gnashing of teeth and swearing. Also replaced the left side mirror with a replacement that turned out to NOT be original, but looks a damn sight better than the crumpled old one. Before and after pics to come later.

Also, after replacing the battery, the cooling problems went away. Must have been the 7v regulator not liking the bad battery. Or maybe a loose ground. Doesn't matter as it's now fixed!

The updated list:

Needs:
- Battery
- Fix Cooling Issue (tentatively diagnosed as Thermostat)
- Rear Brake job

Should do:
- oil change
- Replace front pads (ordered)
- check/replace plugs
- new air filter (ordered)
- adjust valves
- other tune-up stuff (skip timing as it requires taking half the bike apart)
- replace right mirror
- change fork oil
- change headlight (hi-beam is out)

Like to do:
- fix radio LED
- reconnect antenna cable (ghetto repair job in place now)
- new pillion cowling (bidding on one)
- get pillion backrest
- replace nuts/bolts in faring with proper versions
- replace weather stripping on right side faring
- replace front fascia strip
- clean/polish chrome
- touch up paint
- clean up saddlebags bags
- get a trunk extender
- replace engine badging

Next year
- New tires

Pie in the sky
- Get a headlight bracket so I can ride with faring off
