I did suggest Tosh meet Nine Before he meets Rose. And Sarah didn't travel with Rose and the Doctor, and Reinette--even though it seems she and Rose decided to share(easily enough as Reinette was the King's mistress was accustomed to compromise--) conveniently died.

We so completely agree on being unwilling to see Toshiko treated as a spare part--which is why I can't imagine Toshiko with Ten and Rose either--she'd have her hand, --like Mickey's-- on the spare button, or they would bring some dude or dudette to distract Tosh because what woman can resist Davies' Ten.
Also Davies seems to picture women of color as carriers of unrequited affections, and Moffat envisions them, at least dark complexioned women as oversexed, and Asian women as intellecrual but somewhat remote until mature beyond the Doctor's interest to romance.

Smart, pretty, sexy women in the Davies era don't come to a good end if they were not Rose, and Moffat seems to think --see his statement about age limits for Companions--women over forty have the sex appeal of cold dinner rolls. More so with Ten than Nine, the focus was on the Truuuuuu Luv between the Doctor and Rose. Any female would have been a spare part--or star dust.

But now that you mentioned it Ten, Donna, and Tosh, or Ten Martha, and Tosh, would have been fun. I think a brainy team of Jones and Sato might have been brilliant to the point of fans asking "Doctor Who? With good writers Tosh with Ten "after-Rose" might have saved us all the cringe-worthy unrequited love nonsense of Season Three.

I disagree. This is the man that cast Alex Kingston as River Song.

I disagree. This is the man that cast Alex Kingston as River Song. Wow, I didnt know Alex was almost fifty--I thought she was closer in age to David Tennant.
But you're right-I should amend that women over fifty. Paraphased Moffat said there would be no 60 year old (Think Helen Mirren) companions. He's missing out as those English Dames hold up nicely. Do you know his exact quote?

And looks quite stunning, as well (Alex that is). Moffatt, however, seems very good at inserting his foot, doesn't he? No, I don't know the quote, but he is definitely missing out.

Here's the article which has a brief quote from the Doctor Who magazine article. I didn't buy it--12.00 bucks or more for a periodical I want a dvd or pictorial references! Okay, I did buy the special Sarah Jane Adventures issue.

Upon second reading, he does seem to be saying what he wouldn't consider, as much as what sells:

http://www.nme.com/filmandtv/news/steven-moffat-teases-new-doctor-who-companion/267699

He also says: They're all going to be a bit mad. A bit dislocated. Not happy with where they are. Are they yearning for outer space? What show was he watching when he was a kid--he's only ten years younger than I am, so he was four when I fourteen and the show came on American television, but I don't reall the Companions being a bit mad, dislocated, except when the TARDIS whisked them away, or unhappy with their lives. Quite the opposite.

However, in that vein, although accomplished, and in spite of everything Toshwas quite sane, but wasn't completely happy becausse she didn't have 'love" so I guess she would fit in with Moffat's model, since he doesn't mind accomplished women at all.

He says or is quoted as saying:No. Is it going to be someone in their 60s? No. Is there going to be a particular age range? I mean... who's going to have a crush on the Doctor

I'd go before he got to the "go" the "Do you want to--" ., Crush no, unless it's Eight, but since when was having a crush on the Doctor criteria for traveling with him?
