Jon Pertwee, best known to most people as the Third Doctor, was born in 1919. He chugged his way through various light comedy roles, and took on the role of the Doctor in 1970, at the age of fifty-one.
Meanwhile his son Sean Pertwee was born in 1964, and has pounded out a low-key acting career of his own. He can hit his marks and say his lines; he's not a superstar - not expensive. And now, in 2016 - he is fifty-one. And the physical resemblance to his father is unmistakable…
Do Time Lords travel through time or not? The T in TARDIS doesn't mean a hot cup of Earl Grey! “Welcome to the 21st century!”
I say, enough with the ding-dong Doctors Nobody. Let us have, now, the heretofore never-seen Further Adventures of the Third Doctor, the man of action in velvet jacket and lace cuffs, the favorite of a good many long-time Whovians - new stories with new FX and new companion(s), what we'd have seen then if they could have done it!
I mean, why not? Is he doing anything better? Is a better, more popular Doctor going to suddenly appear? To both I'd say, Probably not. Would Mr Pertwee be willing to step into his father's shoes (or velvet smoking jacket)? I don't see any harm in asking!
We ought to write to Steven Moffat and make the suggestion. He says the show is going to run for another five years at least. This would be a blast, and I think a lot of people would like to see it done!
Update:
“It would be an honour
to play my dad's
version of the Doctor”
