My apologies for being slightly out of date. I know we're all buzzing about The Pandorica and here i am talking about The Lodger. ( Slight spoilers for The Lodger/Pandorica )
I figured it was because it was made badly. A weak TARDIS, maybe? Or maybe he lied because he knew what it was and who built it and for some reason, couldn't get involved further than saving Sophie. Maybe his piloting it would cause a paradox somehow.
I think by TARDIS, he means "someone tried to build a ship of some sort that's bigger on the inside and has a pillar thingy with consoles." Its possible that it was a time machine because everytime it was fired up, it caused some sort of temporal disturbance that affected the TARDIS landing somehow.
I was thinking maybe it is/was the TARDIS itself trying to rebuild itself after the explosion. What else would cause the TARDIS to not be able to land, but another version of itself? And are we 100% sure that the people that touched it died? if so where were their bodies?
It's interesting, that the Doctor saw a dead body there in the-TARDIS-upstairs. He was heading to it to find out more, when hologram appeared and after that he didn't have time to do anything.
And also, Taridises are grown, not built. Might the doctor consider this some sort of abomination, like a clone/cyborg might seem to a human? Could that make him want to, say, blow it up?
