Question regarding the stability of Cybermen

Jan 26, 2006 04:24

The roomie and I were watching her Tomb of the Cybermen DVD and I mentioned that I thought they looked really cool, in many ways more cybernetic and deliberate without as blatanly robotic as the 2006 versions look to be. Her rebuttal was that the new design was better because you couldn't trip the new Cybermen. Somehow this spawned an argument ( Read more... )

Hmm, that's a tricky one. On the one hand I think if you did stick out your leg to trip a Cyberman you'd probably break something because I bet they'd be heavy and solid. But your roommate has a point, they do fall over a lot. So maybe if you hit them with a metal pole or something instead of your leg they might trip over? Quite the conundrum! :)

See, I argued the whole "break your leg" angle; they look really solid to me. But they don't look as rigid as the new versions, which seem like reasonably trippable Cybermen.

If you covered your leg with Gold dust you'd get them without having to break anything...I should have a look at photo's to compare the old and the new.

Cybermen are the creepiest looking I think, everyone was scared of the Daleks, I was scared of the Cybermen! ;)

. . .they don't breathe through their legs. . . and I'm not sure that constitutes tripping? Oh. Levity! ;)

Yeah, Cybermen always did it for me. Daleks were fun but too hysterical and drama-queeny to take too seriously. Cybermen will just keep coming and coming, and they'll make you into one of them.

We've not seen the new Cybermen walking yet - we've seen photos, but you can't tell how they walk from a picture.

I don't like how the new cybermen are getting slagged off before we've even seen them in the new series. It's just like when people slagged off David Tennant when all he had said "Oh, where were we? Oh that's right, Barcelona!"...

It bugs me.

I'm not hating on the new Cybermen that much; they're Cybermen, so I'm watching 'em. And I was pulling for them to come back for ages. It's just after watching Tomb that I've reconsidered Cyberattitude and --posture. Even some of the Eighties versions I liked don't seem to measure up now.

Maybe Ace should've tried it in Silver Nemesis.

The old Cybermen are tall and lanky. So while their legs are very strong, they do appear to have a high center of balance. Odds are, like the difference between an SUV and a small car, they can tip over pretty easily.

Tomb Cybermen are more trippable; they can't tie their bootlaces with only three fingers.

But do they have thumbs! If it was two fingers and a thumb they could do it.

Yeah, but it'd take them so long they'd have to book appointments to invade their enemies in advance.
