moving away from the crack bothered me at first, but then i looked at it from a different perspective once the episode was over. one, focusing too much on the crack and making it That Sort of Story is something better suited for a mid-season ep as opposed to an opening one. you can then argue 'why introduce the crack in the first place then, save it for a later episode' but it became clear after PC Thatcher talked about it and after the impression of it on the TARDIS oscilliscope/telly thingy that the crack was an arc thingy and will definitely come back.
the whole episode was fairly... *ponders how to say it*
it's kind of like Utopia. A lot of that episode didn't end up mattering because it was all a big diversion to reveal the unveiling of the Master. It felt like the purpose of this episode was to basically serve as an unveiling of... well, Doctor Who, really. Matt, Amy, and Moffat in particular. The actual story, the plot, all of that was background to the introduction of the new flavor and the new characters in the same

The scene with the Doctor's tie in the car door exemplified that. That was a fantastic scene.
Maybe that's why he decided to go with a bow tie. :)
I grew to like Tennant well enough, but i feel somewhat iffy about him after watching The Christmas Invasion, and i still liked Eccelson more than Tennant as a Doctor overall.
I thought Christopher Eccleston had one of the best introductions of any new Doctor. I particularly loved this bit:"I'm the Doctor, by the way. What's your name?"
it also didn't make a whole lot of sense to me that the Doctor would have kept the smiley-face apple "for later" if he already determined that he didn't like apples. you could maybe argue that "for later" meant not for eating but rather for something like the purpose it was used for, except that he didn't have an intention of being gone for as long as he did, so he wouldn't have needed it in that regard.
I think he took the apple 'for later' because he saw that Amelia was reaching out to him, sharing a part of herself. Her mom was probably dead, definitely gone forever, so him taking the apple was like saying, 'I understand why this is so important to you' without making a big deal out of it and having a talk like a person might. ;)

"Rose."
"Nice to meet you, Rose. Run for your life!"
