I don't normally buy into this sort of thing, but...

Bear in mind that because I try to keep free of this kind of thing I have no idea if you've all been discussing this for months anyway. But I just heard a bit of speculation that's worth mentioning just because it's so ingenious. Please let me know if you've heard it before.

It concernes the identity of Mr Saxon. Or, more specifically, Mister Saxon ( Read more... )

the master, anagrams, speculation

I think I spotted that on Wikipedia somewhere. I think that could all be a great big red herring-someone suggested that it might be the Valeyard, which could be pretty cool

It's been mentioned a few times, yes. And as head boy of pedants' corner, I have to point out that this construction misses out Gordon Tipple.

I thought it might be, yes. But after stumbling across it by accident I thought it was too clever not to mention just on the offchance.

If memory serves, 'twas daniel_saunders who first aired the theory, in comments on a post some time ago. You'll find a relevant post under the tag 'anagrams'.

I'd already heard it from someone else (despite trying to avoid spoilers) and pointed out it missed Tipple and the chap who played the Master-as-disguised-as-phone-mechanic in Terror of the Autons.

I remember posting a load of other possible anangrams, but I can't remember when and haven't got time to go looking now.

I reckon that is Mr Saxon's identity. I've no idea if the anagram is intentional.

I know a few who have that same theory, though the anagram is rather interesting.

Can I ask something stupid as a person who hasn't grown up with Doctor Who and doesn't know all the ins and outs... but the Master... is that a TimeLord as well? Or somebody totally different?

Yes, the Master was a Time Lord. Like the Doctor, he'd left Gallifrey to wander the universe; unlike the Doctor, he wasn't one of the good guys.

The Master is a Time Lord criminal. Moriarty to the Doctor's Holmes. Chalk to the Doctor's cheese. Anchovy to the Doctor's...you get the idea.
