I have relatives in the navy who've been fighting pirates for a few years, so this isn't news to me. There's a seriously fetishism about pirates where I live, especially in terms of tourism -- this port used to be a base for privateers, for example -- but it's a very weird disconnect between the sailing ship kind I picture, and the guys with a cargo hold full of drugs and guns.

Of course, we also have people who think the 'arrh!' skull and crossbone pirates were made up.

Yeah, I'm still surprised that we have pirates (more or less) in present times. Found out about it a few years ago, but then forgot until recent weeks.
