Title: Radiating Weakness
Fandom: Justice League
Characters: Jon Carter-Kord, Danny Carter-Kord
Word Count: 412
Rating: PG
Author's Notes: I've almost but not quite decided that Danny is a physical therapist, or something similar. Whatever led up to this scene, I have no idea. I just suddenly wanted Jon to be bald. Why can't I find a website with hats with funny slogans when I want to?
Radiating Weakness
Danny hasn't seen Jon as vulnerable since they were kids and his brother broke the arm of a bully who thought it would be fun to jump the younger boy after school. Jon will always be Danny's little brother, to be watched and protected whenever possible, but Danny has faith in the man's ability to take care of himself.
Jon looks vulnerable now, without the sharp angles of his hair. It's an odd feeling for Danny, staring at the hairless curve of his brother's scalp and thinking of how easily he could be hurt.
Turning to face him, Jon trails off of a rant Danny hasn't been paying attention to. His expression is confused for a moment, only a moment, before understanding floods his features and then, just as suddenly, anger. His eyes narrow in a glare made strange by the absence of his pointed eyebrows.
Striding closer to his brother, Jon suddenly punches Danny's arm. Hard.
Danny jerks back, a hand going up to grab the injured spot, and yelps in surprise. "What was that for?" he demands.
"You!" Jon snaps, pointing at him. "You're feeling sorry for me. It's friggin' annoying, knock it off."
"It's my fault."
Jon throws his hands up with a frustrated, angry growl and shouts, "Fine! Yes, it's all your fault. I got hurt and now I'm bald. Way to go. Do you feel sufficiently martyred, now? Get over yourself, Danny!"
"Jonny," Danny sighs, moving to touch Jon's shoulder. Jon knocks his hand away with a snarl.
"It's just a little radiation," Jon says, noticeably trying to act calm. "The robo-blood fixed the damage, I'm fine now. They just don't recognize hair as a priority so they didn't bother to quick-grow it. A few weeks, I'll be good as new."
"I'm sorry," Danny says quietly.
Jon eyes him warily then sighs, relenting at Danny's expression. "Yes you are," he grumbles, stepping closer and giving Danny a loose hug. "Quit being such a baby. Tell you what, you let me borrow a hat till my hair grows back and we'll call it even."
"Not the sombrero!" Danny protests. "Mrs. Garza gave it to me."
Shaking his head, Jon grins. "No, I'm more in a fedora mood." Tilting an amused look at Danny, he adds, "What is it about you that people keep giving you hats?"
Danny runs a hand through his fluffy hair and smirks. "Jealousy."
This time the punch to his arm is gentler. A little.
