Racist? No thought thought not.
Sexist? Nah. Good keep going...
Homophobic? Nope. Great...
All of these things are considered by MOST people as thoroughly unnaceptable and offensive, which is good.
They are.
Will someone tell me then Why does an otherwise fairly right on comic like Billy Connolly think it's acceptable to do a bit involving the comedic posibilities of large people? This is just a tiny example of the portrayal of large folks in the media.
It drives me nuts. large people are in the main portrayed in the media as funny, stupid, clumsy, greedy, perverted, lonely, socially inept and in any amount of other negative ways.
It's not just in the media, obviously but I am adressing the most visible form of this hate here.
I am no longer an "Angry Person" TM but this makes me bloody fume.
I am aware that most of my friends list won't have anything to do with this sort of abuse ) I just want to flag it up. Also while on the subject of predjudice, let me point out that I am aware that many gay, black and otherwise "different" folk are on the end of abuse a lot, I am just saying that as the social barometer swings against this, body image and size abuse is as common as it ever was, and avoiding the social swing that is reducing other forms of predjudice.
