009. rewatching

I've been rewatching all the Granada Sherlock Holmes episodes again, even though I've seen them all at least five times each already. My favorite ever is The Blue Carbuncle, but The Six Napoleons (which I've just finished) is really good, too. The best bits about the Granada episodes are, I think, when Holmes and Watson sort of giggle at each other about something, and it's ADORABLE. They do that quiet a bit in those two episodes, I think. :D

Some other favorite episodes: The Musgrave Ritual (that early scene with Holmes wrapped in about six blankets is priceless), The Greek Interpreter (Mycroft!), The Red-Headed League (duh), The Dancing Men, A Scandal in Bohemia. Actually that last one is especially interesting now, since the second BBC series is going to have Irene in it.

The Granada Irene is fantastic! She's an adventurer, but in a Victorian lady sort of way. She's tricky and clever and sneaky, but not in a vulgar (or completely mad) She's maybe a temptress but she's definitely not a master criminal. And you can tell she's really in love with that lawyer fellow who she marries-- it's kind of sweet, really. I love the Granada Irene; she's more like an actual person instead of an Action Girl trope, which is what other (more modern?) Irenes seem to be. I'm hoping the BBC show has an Irene like the Granada show's Irene.

Anyway, I'm on season 4 now and I bet I'll be done with the lot sometime tomorrow. I've gotten my hands on a few other versions, including the 1960s one with Peter Cushing as Holmes. I haven't watched them yet, so it'll be fun to see some other ideas about Holmes and Watson. I still have the Russian series to finish, too, but I've been putting it off because I don't want it to be over so soon. :(
