Elizabeth Edwards' cancer is back, and this time it has metasticized to her rib. Her doctor said it is Stage IV metastatic cancer. Mr. and Mrs. Edwards, characteristically, remain hopeful and upbeat; I wouldn't expect anything less from them. Many people have commented on the prognosis and what it means, but it is still too early to speculate.
I was fortunate to meet Elizabeth Edwards last fall at a book signing last fall, and I immediately took a liking to her, and devoured her memoir. In short, she is a class act. Her positive attitude, her courage, her intelligence, her compassion, her sincerity, her total lack of pretension, and her generosity are all inspirational to me. This is a woman who's been through a tremendous amount of grief, and her ability to make the best out of it shows the kind of character that seems so rare these days, particularly in politics. We need more people like her in this world. She's become one of my heroes.
