“Do either of you snore?”
“No.”
“What about you?”
“I…I don’t think so.”
“We’ll tell you if you do.”
“I don’t think I do.”
“I think I need to use the bathroom.”
There was the sound of shuffling bed sheets, then a thump of two feet hitting the floor, followed by a scampering of socks across the hardwood floor.
“Great, now I need to go.”
“Funny how that works isn’t it?”
“I hope this isn’t a nightly thing.”
Earlier.
Professor McGonagall and a fifth year prefect had showed them their dorm room.
“Now you three have a good night sleep and if there is anything you need please see Dana here,” said the head of Gryffindor to the three eleven year old girls standing in front of her.
Once McGonagall had left, Dana the prefect showed them the lavatory and the closets. She informed them of the dorm rules and how they could contact her later.
“Do you have any questions?” asked Dana the freckled fifth year.
Everyone shook their heads.
“Well then, good night!” Dana turned and walked away but stopped at the door and added. “Enjoy the surprise I left on your pillows.”
The three girls quickly turned around and rushed to their beds and each found a red foil wrapped heart shaped chocolate.
“Wow, that was ever so neat!” exclaimed the young Indian girl.
“I agree. It was very neat,” agreed the pale skinned girl.
The third girl shook her head slightly. “She must have slipped it when we weren’t looking. But I still think it’s very nice of her.”
No one spoke for the next few minutes as each girl took nibbles off their chocolate.
Finally, the Indian girl put her chocolate down and hopped off her bed.
“Alright, so should we introduce ourselves or something?”
The other two girls looked at each other nervously. One of them was holding on too her book bag, the other onto a pillow. Neither looked like they wanted to move.
“Come on then! Fine I’ll start.” The dark skinned girl stood at attention. “My name is Parvati Patil and I’m eleven years old. I have a twin sister named Padma and she is in Ravenclaw.”
“Why aren’t you in Ravenclaw?” asked the curly haired girl.
“Uh?”
“Why aren’t you in Ravenclaw?”
“I don’t know. I guess the sorting hat decided I was better suited for Gryffindor.”
The curly haired girl put her book aside and slid off her bed.
“I’ll go next then.” She stood up and tucked her hands behind her back. “My name is Hermione Granger and I’m also eleven years old. I’m also Muggle born.” She said the last three words really quickly.
There was an sharp intake of breath from the other two girls and Hermione looked down at her feet.
“That is so neat!”
“What?” Hermione looked up at the girl sitting on the bed.
“You’re a Muggle? Oh that is wonderful!” The third girl hopped off her bed and came forward to join the other two in the middle of the room. “Muggle girls never were friends with me. I’m hoping you can be my friend.”
“Well I suppose,” Hermione blushed a little.
“My name is Lavender Brown, I’m eleven years old as well. And I have nothing else to say because I’m terribly boring.”
The three girls sat down on the floor and started talking and giggling. They were still at it ten minutes later when Dana stuck her head in and told them they needed to get to bed.
“Just like being at home,” complained Lavender as she buttoned up her pyjama top and got into bed.
“At least I don’t have to share my room with my sister anymore,” said Parvati.
“These are nice beds.”
“Yes they are.”
The trio exchanged these quips for a while, and following a bathroom break, they fell asleep.
Later, Professor McGonagall and Dana stood silently in the doorway and watched the three girls sleep.
“These three seemed to behave alright,” noted the professor.
“I had to get them to stop talking and send them to bed. Other than that there were no problems.”
“Good, tomorrow have their pets sent up.”
Dana nodded and left with McGonagall.
The End.
