Can't wait for the new season to start, but seriously -- for the 50th Anniversary, a single 60-minute episode? Really, Moffat? Cause that's kinda pathetic, to be quite honest.
First of all, Moffat may not have any control over what the BBC is willing to commission in terms of the 50th. Without budget and/or scheduling, it's kind of hard to do anything more. So blaming him for everything isn't really fair.
Also, the thing at Toy Fair may have misinterpreted. It listed some things coming up, but doesn't say "this, and only this". So there MAY be more than just a 60 minute special. Obviously most of us are hoping there's more to it.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. If it's that short, the production team probably doesn't have any control over that. It's all down to the BBC and I know in the past couple years, there's been a bit of bitching in fandom that the BBC hasn't really been treating DW with the respect it deserves, and there are money issues, and that's just the way the industry works. :|

This. I personally would think that if the Moff had had an unlimited budget, and the BBC's cooperation, there'd have been specials every month for a year. It really IS down to budget. The only thing I think he's guilty of is hyberbole in terms of pimping it, but I suspect it was wishful thinking and/or hoping the BBC would back him up. ;)
I just have seen too many people blaming HIM and that's not how the industry works. He may have wanted to do a 12 part special for all we know, starring all surviving doctors and companions, Sir Kenneth Branagh, the Rolling Stones and Her Majesty, but if the BBC said "nope, we're giving you 60 minutes, £ 150, and a gallon of latex to do makeup with", that's all he can work with.
Yeah, I think the 50th just landed at a bad time with regards to the BBC's money and leadership. There's not tons of money, and I think some of the higher ups are known to not be that friendly to DW.
Also shut up now I am sad again that Kenneth Branagh (I mean SIR Kenneth Branagh) has not done Who.
Agreed -- and people who keep blaming Moffat for the weird scheduling in the past 2 years keep forgetting that there was both the Queen's Jubilee AND the Olympics to contend with on the schedule which were both obviously factors.
Also, it's funny that everyone is assuming this is the end all, be all in terms of what we get this year. The BBC has waited until 2 weeks before airing to give us info about the show -- it's still 8 months away and people are getting tetchy.
I'm just happy they bothered to give us 2 months notice for S7 B! :)
(There are also those monthly stories by famous people, the BBC America specials, the BFI screenings for people in the UK etc. Plus hopefully more stuff coming? Am I being too much of an optimist?)

LOL, now I have some very interesting visuals in my head. : )
