(Is it just me who sort of hopes he grows up to be Bill Nighy? That the bit in Vincent And The Doctor where they're eyeing up each other's bow tie was actually, like, Matt seeing his future as an eminently respectable actor who's still highly fanciable at any age?)

This better be his future. Maybe in the future, he will be an older man, working with a then-popular young actor that all the kids will like, and the kids will go "Damn, that Matt Smith is kinda hot, I'd hit it NGL."
