Matt and Karen and Doctor Who are up against John Barrowman and Torchwood: Children of Earth, so it's a battle of Who-ness this time around:
Time Lord to take on Torchwood hero
Doctor Who's Time Lord will battle Torchwood hero Captain Jack Harkness at this year's TVChoice Awards.
Matt Smith and Karen Gillan have sealed their success as the Doctor and his assistant in the latest series of Doctor Who by both making the shortlist for the first time.
Matt is up for best actor and Karen for best actress, while the show itself is shortlisted for best family drama.
The best actor category sees Matt fight it out with John Barrowman, who plays Captain Jack in Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood. The two face competition from Philip Glenister, who played brash cop Gene Hunt in the BBC1 show Ashes To Ashes, which was recently wound up in a tear-jerking finale.
Torchwood: Children Of Earth is up for best drama series, alongside Ashes To Ashes, Shameless and Skins.
Meanwhile, two of Simon Cowell's shows are nominated for best talent show - Britain's Got Talent and The X Factor. Dancing On Ice and Strictly Come Dancing are also up for the gong.
Benidorm, The Big Bang Theory, Gavin And Stacey and Outnumbered are vying for best comedy; while Alan Carr: Chatty Man, Celebrity Juice, Harry Hill's TV Burp, and QI are in the running for best entertainment show.
Sky's Pineapple Dance Studios, which propelled flamboyant choreographer Louie Spence to stardom, is up against Coach Trip, I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here! and the soon-to-be-axed Big Brother for best reality show.
Comic actor and presenter Alexander Armstrong will host the glitzy awards ceremony on September 6. Viewers can cast their votes at
