Steven Moffat has also stated that he's scribing the Christmas special and that it features BOTH Matt Smith and Karen Gillan in it.

YAY!!!

Ah, we're all pleased and finally a Christmas special with the sam Doctor/Companion from the season we've been watching. And I don't think I ever want Christmas specials to feature one off companions again.

Don't break up the trio, Moff, it's Team Win all the way. :D

The spoilers don't mention Rory but I assume he will be in the Christmas special and Series 6. I can't wait for Rory and River to meet up. She'll find him endearing.

LOL, endearing? She'll eat him for breakfast! XD

Oh that too, but even River would find it difficult to resist Rory's charms. Yes?

Oh indeed. Mind you, it sounds like Rory'll not be the same sweet doormat he was previously by the time the series finishes with him, so she may have to wrestle for that breakfast. :)

I figured if they met they would bond over their crazy pseudo-spouses. If the Doctor and Amy can bond over being bonkers and running away together, River and Rory can certainly bond over being the reasonable ones who ask everybody to keep their heads.

Plus they both have this quiet, technical competence that they just carry on with in the background without a lot of fuss: Rory fixes people and River fixes transporters and they both tend to investigate things in their quiet, awesome way. I could see them having a lot of respect for each other. And River is considerably more civil and considerably less--shall we say theatrical?--when she's not trying to get the Doctor's goat. And River can probably translate "Doctor" for Rory better than Amy can.

Damn, now I really want this to happen. There may need to be fic.

That sounds like one of the most amazing scenarios for the OT4 ever!

If you find or write such fic, please tell me, I need to read that like burning. ♥

Will do <3

Oh, and of course all River's experience dealing with the Doctor's companions and her awesome chillness about them will rub off on Rory and he will drop the lingering vestiges of Doctor-envy.

If I'm honest, I'd kind of like Rory to become so BAMF, that the Doctor has a few stabs of Rory-envy. ♥

Wow, that is a considerable level of BAMF-ness. *tries to think of people the Doctor has envied for things totally unrelated to taxies at 2am*

Heck, I'd watch!

"the reasonable ones who ask everybody to keep their heads."

That doesn't actually sound super-Riverlike, but I'm sure they'll find something to bond over. How their significant otherses (or something?) are far more ridiculous than them, at the very least.

"There are five people still alive in this room, and you need to stop being so emotional right now."

"Pull him out of there when he's too stupid to leave."

"Ok, be quiet and let him think." *pets Amy*

And all the reassuring she does for freaked out people who don't want to trust the Doctor. She may delight in riling the Doctor up when the stakes aren't high, but she spends most of the rest of her time being quietly competent, keeping other people calm, and keeping the Doctor from getting himself killed.

Oh: and I'm going to start using "significant otherses" all the time in conversation. Hee hee.

Okay, fair point. She just comes across more the tough type than the soothing type in the way she does it? Like THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE NOW SHUSH. Also, she's a bit prone to being wild off on her own, too.

I don't even know whether I wrote it that way deliberately or by accident anymore. *sigh*
