Dec 17, 2011 12:17

[Phone]

It appears that these "new drones" have started becoming a little too unbearable for the eyes of Mayfield's citizens. Well, then, who am I to ignore the cries of my citizens? Of course I should do something about this. After all, isn't that what a king is meant to do, help the needy of his own whim? But at the same time, I am a doctor and ( Read more... )

[Sunny herself is outside building a really bad snow fort, because she's not sure how to handle that most the people she knows are 'droned' now. But she looks over curiously when the doctor shows up, and frowns a little]

C-can I h-help you?

[He was going to go knock on the door, but this is helpful. He looks over his list one more time and addresses Sunny with his usual calm voice and smile.]

Why, hello there, young lady. That's quite a nice fort you're building.

I assume that you've heard the recent broadcast?

[She just nods, turning away from him long enough to make sure the fort doesn't fall on her, before turning back to him]

Y-yeah. It k-keeps coming on.

I see. Yes, we do have quite a dilemma on our hands. I pity anybody whose name was written on that list.

[And just as he checks his notepad one more time...]

May I ask for your name?

[Sunny frowns deeply. The way he said that seems weird. Still, she wasn't on the list, just others she knew.]

S-Sunny.

[... A name that isn't on the list. How disappointing. But the Doctor's face shows very little of his irritability. No, he's just as pleasant as ever.]

I see! That's a cute name. You can just call me the Doctor. As my title implies, I am Mayfield's doctor.

... Ah. You know what.

[He puts his notepad in his lab jacket and walks over to Sunny and her snow fort. It's not as though he hasn't built any of these when he was a kid too. Might as well keep up the nice guy illusion for a little while longer as he spruces the snow fort a little.

He helps Sunny fix the fort a little. At least, to the point where it wouldn't collapse on her.]

There. Looks a little more stable, doesn't it?

[Thankfully, she doesn't notice the any changes in his face, and instead watches him move over to the snow fort. But, his words don't make a lot of sense to her.]

M-mayfield's Doctor? B-but this place doesn't h-have it's own doctor, j-just drone ones, d-doesn't it?

No, we have many professionals in the field of medicine over at the Hospital. I am one of them. Ever since I came to this town, I devoted myself and my skills to the people of the town.

That is why I am Mayfield's Doctor.

[Ever since he came...?]

T-that doesn't make y-you Mayfield's doctor, a-anymore than assigning someone a h-home makes them f-family, though.

What is a doctor? A man who serves to heal the ailments of all those that come to his doorstep. He exists solely to insure the health of others.

That is what makes me a doctor... who happens to have devoted himself to this town.

Hm... [She doesn't seem convinced, or maybe it's more she doesn't care?]

S-so why are you h-here?

Oh, yes.

I wanted to know whether you knew anybody who passed away just recently. Who saw little purpose to life and sacrificed him or herself.

[Sunny frowns a bit at the doctor's words.]

H-how is that s-seeing little purpose i-if they sacrificed t-themselves?

You remember your dream too, don't you? You were shown just how worthless your life is and how better everything would be if you chose to end your existence.

They thought they had no value and ended themselves.

[Sunny now purses her lips together]

S-so?! T-they thought it was r-right, so i-it's not something useless, even if it d-didn't work out!

Calm down. I wasn't saying that their actions were useless. Only what they might have thought.
