I'd say go for it too if you're okay with all the work. It's a lot of work, and like a 24-hour job because even if it's the middle of the night they would still come to you. At my school, as far as I remember, the RAs didn't have too bad of a job (well, at least my RAs didn't) because the students were well behaved enough. Amy, however, had quite the duty to fulfill--considering the fact that UC Santa Cruz is full of drugged crazies. I don't think UCR would be that bad lolol
You really do become an older sister (or even mother) to the students, and you are expected to take that extra money they gave you and plan events with it (so it's not like you can just keep it--but you could always do easy things like an ice cream social on your floor, or have movie nights or whatever in the lounge room).
Floor themes: I've got nothin' D: My floor my freshman year didn't really have a theme.

the thing is, i got one of the older (cheaper?) dorms so the students are usually not as study-oriented and might be more inclined to party/trash the place. so the workload seems possibly heavy for now. i hope you're right that UCR won't be bad. but lol, some of these newbies might want to promote our bad reputation.

another con for this job is that i probably won't be able to visit you!! that's why i'm so undecided. :(!! i want to come up to SB and visit you, but the move-in and training days for RA will start august 29 and i was "WHAT! THAT'S WHEN I WAS GONNA VISIT MY BBDOLL D8<"
YOU CAN ALWAYS COME VISIT NOOOOW and sit in class with me 8D or play video games at my apartment.
Amy's first year as an RA, she had to leave during spring quarter because she was doing school on top of having an off-campus job and doing RA duty xD; but last year (Junior year), she was able to do it really well and she'll be lead RA this coming year. She loved her residents (even if they were a bit of a handful).
Just go with what you think feels best! There are going to be a lot of pros and cons that work against each other haha so you'll just have to take a gamble!
PS Even if you can't come visit me this weekend, I only have classes on Monday and Wednesday next quarter, so I can come and visit you in Riverside a lot :D When I'm not in Irvine or up north hehe
Well, you probably wouldn't want to come to English with me because it's a small class, and so is my Psych discussion, but Tuesday and Thursday Psych lectures are 2 hours in a decently sized hall so they wouldn't notice an extra body xD
