"Well, you took me in, you stole my heart,
I cannot roam no more,
Because love, it stays within you,
It doesn't wash up on a shore.
And a fighting man forgets each cut,
Each knock, each bruise, each fall,
But a fighting man cannot forget
Why his love don't roam no more.

I do love this moment for its angsty goodness. Before watching TRB, I thought the flashbacks to New Earth were from fanvids. Then to find out that they were legit part of the ep...

I love how basically everyone on the show was a huge shipper.

Edited because apparently I'm not making sense tonight...

I've talked with random friends who watched the new Doctor Who and I've always been totally gobsmacked when they tell me they don't like Rose. Like...how could you even watch the first four seasons and not like Rose? Wouldn't that drive you mad? Those seasons are almost entirely about the Doctor and Rose. I just don't understand. It's completely obvious how they love each other. It's so obvious that somewhere, somewhen Captain Jack is rubbing his hands together and whispering "Exxxxcellent".

It boggles the mind. The Doctor and Rose is canon. Period.

It's so obvious that somewhere, somewhen Captain Jack is rubbing his hands together and whispering "Exxxxcellent".

You know it! XD

Yeah, I find that strange too. I suppose it's akin to being a Harry Potter fan who hates the Gryffindors. I don't think Rose hate is that popular offline however; Rose regularly comes first in Favourite Companion polls.

Lol Jack is a total shipper too. Maybe that's a reason people find it annoying... they feel that the relationship is "shoved down their throats." Different strokes I guess! At least we have a safe space to share our glee. :D

lol I always find the "shoved down my throat!" descriptor for ships so weird. You mean they're "forcing" it on you by... making it canon? I mean, I get not liking a canon ship, there are canon ships I dislike, but saying they're "forcing" it on me is just strange. Are they also "forcing" characterization, plot, etc on me?

Yeah that's a good point. I have definitely seen people claim that characterization and plot is forced in various fandoms, and I think I've been guilty of that myself *cough*Moffat*cough*. IDK, saying that something feels forced is like a get out of jail free card for saying you dislike a ship/plotline/etc.

I think saying something feels forced as in not natural/organic in the text is a fair criticism.

But being like EW I HATE ROSE AND THEY'RE FORCING HER ON ME I'm always like "you mean.... by making her a main character?" Like it's fine to not like a main character/etc, but to say they're ~shoving it down your throat~... I think what people really just mean is "it's canon and I don't like it". But for some reason people have trouble saying that.

That's true. Rose was introduced to viewers before the Doctor was in NuWho - which hardly amounts to being forced on them. There seems to be gradations of Rose hate:

- people who hated her in S1,
- people who hated her in S2,
- people who hated the mentions in S3, and
- people who hated the fact that she was brought back in S4.

Maybe part of it comes from the backlash against people who dislike female characters. I'm not talking about bashing here, just anyone who has disliked a main female character for whatever reason. The people who dislike the character and DO bash her give everyone else a bad name. So people who have no interest in bashing either come up with a cogent argument or they say "it's forced". (Of course, bashers will also say that the relationship is forced, so.)
