SOUNDS LEGIT

lol a while ago I remember seeing that whole "if the first tear comes out the right eye they're crying from happiness/left eye they're crying from pain" thing as some kind of graphic, and firstofoct and I immediately pulled up this gif and were like OMG HE'S CRYING WITH JOY, CLEARLY.

Well judging by the size of her pic in the DWM a couple of issues ago, SHE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING THAT HAS HAPPENED AT CHRISTMAS EVERRRR!

So glad you have finally seen the light on that ... >.^ ...

Of course she was!! I mean, the fact that she had absolutely NOTHING to do with Christmas means nothing. We all know that she was more important that ANYTHING else that ever happened then!

I KNOW, how could I have taken SO LONG to realise the truth!

IKR? We need to make a new comm dedicated to that pairing. The OTP of all OTPs - everything that happened after that ep was completely related to her, it's just that Ten hid it really, really well. Until he cried in Doomsday because the pain of her loss was palpable again.

WE DO! There should be HUNDREDS of comms for THE OTP!
I mean even all his behaviour in S3 was all about her. Had nothing to do with Rose, he just mentioned her so no one knew the truth!

I know!! The saddest part about their romance was really how nuanced it was, and how unless you are very mindful of characterization and subtext, how you might not fully appreciate how deeply he loved her. It is one of the most touching arcs through the RTD era when you stop to think about it!!

My personal favorite, of course, is how he obviously even wanted John Smith in HN/FoB to keep a stiff upper lip, and so even subconsciously wouldn't let himself think about her hardly at all and get only a passing, blink-and-you-miss-it reference in the Journal of Impossible Things =(

In truth - it was clear he was just trying to spare himself a broken heart =(

Oh yes, their story is so subtle, it requires paying attention and understanding to see the true depth of his love for her. It was truly an epic romance cut tragically short and it was always affecting the Doctor from that moment on.

I mean, anyone who says that the reason she doesn't appear in the Journal of Impossible Things because he didn't really love her is obvioulsy just not grasping the fact he still wasn't ready to face his loss.

And we all know the reason he looked so happy to see Rose in TSE/JE was because he thought she might distract him from his pain. He missed his friend is all.

Totally agreed. It's really sad that viewers nowadays have such a short attention span and really don't seem of a mindset that is ready to appreciate how nuanced their love story is =/ It's a waste of excellent writing on a fandom that is sometimes a little too dense to appreciate it =/

TOTALLY!!! And that really was the arc that RTD trying to get across! Granted, he did it very ham-handedly and without a lot of the subtlety and rich texture that you find in a lot of Moffat's scripts, but even so: love, loss, and loneliness. Ten experienced all of this, and this was really the pinnacle of emotional loss for him =(

He missed his friend is all.

Exactly. As we discussed earlier re Sherlock - in order for there to be romance, there should be sexual undertones. Like the subtext of Irene's comfort with her sexuality (GOD I LOVE THAT MAN!! <3), which really showed how willing she was to reach out to Sherlock and help him embrace his own attraction to her. Our Epic!Ship has those undertones, which are crucial to a healthy relationship. The canon!ship though, really only has friendship, which is not the most important basis for a long-term relationship.

Precisely!! It's such a shame that audiences these days need to be hit with all the obvious indications of love to think that there is a romance there. Sometimes it's in the smallest signs.

Obviously Moffat is the master of writing these subtle romances. He understands that showing the audience the obvious love and affection isn't needed, just the subtlety of a true EPIC OTP. I mean Ten's obvious difficulty dealing with this tragedy was badly handled by RTD, he tried, but he just couldn't grasp the story properly.

Moffat also understands the need for sexual innuendo which shows that this is romance not friendship. Because obviously love can not exist without sex.

Just how much do you think we've abused sarcasm at this point?

Sometimes it's in the smallest signs.

Exactly!! It doesn't need to be big and bold, or in-your-face across a whole series, to be real! Sometimes the truest and most genuine love is shown through the smallest little things. Really really really small.

Agreed - those who understand love will understand it. And RTD bungled the lead-in, as well as all the episodes following out of it. Really, a travesty.

I think there's a picture of us in the dictionary beside the word at this point XD

Yep, need a microscope to see 'em. But that's what makes it so special.

I KNOW! I mean how could he ignore the Doctor's pain for so long? All that he had to suffer through with a smile on his face. Tsk Tsk RTD.

Always knew I'd get in the dictionary someday, glad to share the honour with you ;D
