I love Rose's comment here. She's totally thinking of Nine as a potential boyfriend, or she'd never say that!

The canon hound in me always itches at the Age Problem. The Doctor should be well over a thousand by the time he's Nine -- he had already reached a thousand more or less by the time he was Seven. So I always wonder why he says 900? Any head canon on why he would say that??

My parents had an age gap. My dad was 30 when my mom was 18. He waited till she was 26 to marry her, but still, he was 38!!

Maybe because part of the Time War didn't just erase his species but bits of himself as well, like adventures he can't quiet remember because they ceased to exist in normal time and space?

It's one of those big gaps in canon we never talk about (like the, "I'm half human, on my mother's side" from The Movie), but I have to remind myself that it wasn't just the Daleks and the Time Lords that got the boot, it was every advanced civilization that knew about them. That's why Ten was called a "legend" a lot.

i like this idea. Little pieces here and there that faded out of his life... how sad! :(

Regarding his lineage, it's very fun to read Lungbarrow and try to internalize all the wacky hints about the mysterious life he led in the Backtime... and hints that Leela and Andred's half human, half Time Lord baby ended up becoming the person he was before he was loomed (possibly Omega or the Other?) All we really know is that he has a granddaughter named Susan! And he doesn't seem to remember much more than that!

I didn't realize that all the civilizations were destroyed, I thought it was just the ones that were destroyed by Daleks or by the crossfire of the Time War.... O_O

The Doctor's life is so timeywimey!!!

It is sad but it's the only thing that I can think of that would make who-canon sense...sort of. lol

He remembers his previous selfs, like Five during Time Crash, and Eleven carries a card with his first incarnation's picture on it, so he knows himself. I think he remembers most of his previous companions, and other Time Lords, but maybe not everything. The Doctor has always been a bit bad with his memories. Plus, the whole Time Lock and Time War creates a massive case of the grandfather paradox ( ... )

If I had infinite time and money I would read those Eight adventures where Romana gets the Doctor involved in the Time War. They sound fascinating!!

There are also a whole string of "gallifrey" radio dramas that center around Romana and Leela which seem super interesting.

I have a a bunch of Eight Doctor BF audios, and his first season, but have yet to listen to them. I'm mostly on a Five run atm. But I'm pretty sure that, at least with Eight, BF can't touch the Time War. Not sure about the Gallifrey series or the ones with Romana and Leela. I'm not as interested in those (yet), because I've yet to see a bunch of Romana serials except for the E-Space trilogy.

I also have some of the EDAs on my ebook reader. Trying to read the first one where he looses his memory...again.

I always thought he didn't want to admit his real age or she'd think of him as really old. Like 900 was young but 1500 was middle-aged! And he didn't want to be middle-aged around such a sweet young thing. Or that he just picked out an arbitrary number because he's so old know he can't remember.

That's what I always thought. That it was just a spur of the moment, God I don't want her to think I'm ancient, so 900 should do it, sort of thing.

Hehe. I like this one. Never imagined the Time Lords to be picky about their age but, then again, he's the last one so why not make up your own rules?

Oh, wait, that's bad. Ok, your own rules regarding yourself. No one to look up your matrix-data thingy and see how old you are. ;)
