2007-07-22 04:41 am UTC ( link) Jabrill pulled a small, disc-like, silver metal item out of one of his pockets. It was about 2 & 1/2 the size of a Zippo lighter and had a small digital display with some buttons near it.

"This incendiary tool can be set for as much as a 10 minute delay. They use these in chemistry labs for experiments requiring an ignition source that are too dangerous to ignite by hand or up close. I just need to set the temperature on the heating element"

Jabrill began to set the device via the buttons.

2007-10-10 12:10 am UTC ( link) Pacing, the Doctor glanced at the doors. Nothing had changed -- which was good, because if the darkness began to creep in it would already be too late for those trapped below.

It really was unfair to blame Jarill for the delay, but he found himself doing it anyhow. "Anytime you're ready," he groused, shooting another instinctive glance at the door.

It was quiet down there. Steadfastly, the Doctor refused to think about why this might be a bad sign.

2007-10-10 02:13 pm UTC ( link) Jabrill kept working, but commented sarcastically anyway, "Right, because this is cooking and not rocket science."

The device was now set and Jabrill placed it inside the flyer.

"Ready whenever you are, Doctor."

2007-10-10 04:10 pm UTC ( link) Flinging the window open, the Doctor started leaned out and felt a warm breeze flowing up from the streets as the cool night air began to puddle between the buildings. Starting the tiny aircraft's ignition, he tossed it gently into the air, watching as the breeze caught its wings and raised it high over the city.

2007-10-11 09:10 pm UTC ( link) "Well!" The Doctor rubbed his hands. "Now that's sorted."

Swinging round, he snatched the pulsating twist from the shelf.

"This," he said sternly, "is goin' away with me, which means we can't let them search my pockets when they get here. Won't make a difference if they think I stole it in the first place, so your hands are clean."

2007-10-12 02:14 pm UTC ( link) Jabrill had mixed feelings. On the one hand, he had gone through a lot to get the blasted twist, but on the other he was glad to be rid of it.

Keeping the new arrivals from searching the Doctor would be tricky, but Jabrill felt he owed the Doctor that much, at the very least.

"Doctor, we need a plan to keep our new guests searching you."

Jabrill began to fill his own pockets with random junk from the makeshift lab.

2007-10-14 09:11 am UTC ( link) "Oh, y'think? Good idea, you just get on with that." Striding over to the door, the Doctor placed his hand against the wall of the building. He had a feeling that not many plans would work against the oncoming foe.

As he listened, practically trying to feel his way through the very bones of the building, the whispering suddenly died. The ominous silence was broken by the firing of a pulse-weapon and a thin, frightened scream. Other shouts rose from the lower halls, and the whispering returned full force.

The scream hadn't sounded like any of his companions, but the Doctor knew well what terror could do to a well-known voice.

The blood ran cold in his veins. Whatever was happening now... he needed to be down there with them.

2007-10-15 03:15 am UTC ( link) Jabrill heard the scream too, and he didn't recognize the voice. Just the same, Jabrill reckoned that it was certainly NOT good news. He began looking about for a weapon.

2007-10-15 04:38 pm UTC ( link) The Doctor didn't wait. Maybe Jabrill knew what they were facing -- after all, he had managed to steal the twist and get out alive -- or maybe he didn't... which would be bad. In either case, the scream had forced the Doctor's hand.

With a muttered, "I think that's my cue," he bolted for the stairs, digging in his pocket for his sonic screwdriver.

2007-10-16 04:21 pm UTC ( link) It was chaos out in the hallway and getting even harder to see. The emergency lights were going haywire, like dim badly done strobes.

Trace heard the scream followed by the sound of a pulse rifle being fired, but wasn't sure who had screamed or who had fired the shot. She wasn't normally someone who carried a gun, of any type, but she was starting to wish she had something to fight with.

2007-10-17 01:50 am UTC ( link) The young guard returned from a look-around by the stairs. His face was white.

"They've blocked the stairs! I think... everybody's gone!"

He glanced up and down the corridor, but the situation was clear. There was nowhere to go but up.

2007-10-19 02:41 pm UTC ( link) Trace was fascinated by what she'd seen but knew better than to just watch it. So up the stairs she raced with the rest. She wondered if this being (or was it beings?) had anything to do with the "dark matter" she'd heard about in physics and astronomy. Her list of "ask the Doctor about it later" was getting even longer. At this rate she'd need footnotes for it. She fervently hoped that there would be a later.
