RIP Citizen Cello

Aug 28, 2005 02:01

Ever since I returned from Canada, Herr Cello has been in serious decline. Another long and nasty crack has developed on the back of my cello. It's progressive, I'm afraid. The stress added by the abrupt shift in weather during my travel and the rough handling by the airport authorities did their damage. The cracks would cost more to repair than the cello itself cost, and even then sound would be diminished. Thus I am forced to retire my old workhorse from duty. May I find a new use for the worn cello. I'm taking suggestions- so far it has been proposed that I take the face off of it and transform it into a cabinet of some sort, or perhaps a striking coffee table. Or a CD rack. Or a weapon?

This week has not been a good week for cellos, I'm afraid. In light of my cello situation, I borrowed from the school a scratchy old cello that turns out to sound more like a seal in labor than a musical instrument. All of this could not occur at a worse time, given my audition approaching early in the afternoon (it is about 1:30 in the morning at the moment). As far as that goes, things are looking rather grim, but I may make it, despite my lack of practice this week. We'll see how it turns out. Wish me luck. Another year with Academy Orchestra might just drive me insane. I think I'd rather not be part of the Arkansas Youth Orchestras at all if I have to spend another semester with Academy. On the bright side, Rosie, in her infinite-ish kindness and charity, is allowing me to use her wonderful cello for the audition. I would like, then, to take this opportunity to present Rosie with the coveted Rosie Award, a high honor seldom received.

. . .

The first week of school concluded on a rather positive note. I like my classes enough, with the possible exception of French 3, which may very well be the most mind-numbing class I've ever had; I can't hand it to Mr. Berjot for being much of a teacher or entertainer. That aside, it's all looking good. I was granted my schedule change and am now in AP Music Theory 4 instead of 3, which is a mood-booster. I'm also pleased that so many of you Lutheran High kids have defected to Parkview. The lure of better classes and choices will soon drag you all over here, I'm certain.

My cat is more or less restored to his regular state of mind. This is good; I was almost inclined to commit acts of violence against him. He still wails on occasion. At what, I'm not sure. He's a very loud and obnoxious cat.

Mm. Well, I don't feel like writing much more.
