Kavanagh opened his mouth to protest before deciding that very, very occasionally listening to McKay might be a good idea. So he listened. Apparently the drugs were having an effect because McKay was making him feel odd in a strange pleasant way. He decided to wait until there was a pause to return some of the sentiment. But by the time McKay stopped his mind was focused only on 'funeral'.

Until then it hadn't really sunk in that he'd everyone had considered him dead. What the implications of that may have been. No wonder three people in a row had just told him that Nick and David had been in an awful state. By the time he's recovered enough to say something McKay is out of the door already.

He reaches for his laptop and opens the email browser. Like a band-aid it's probably best to get this done quickly.

Whatever drugs your husband has me on are obviously affecting my higher brain functions leaving me with a sudden urge to do this. You really are brilliant. You ruin it with your carelessness, impatience and complete disregard for the scientific method but the underlying genius is there. And as much as I like to be independent, I've never had any problems with telling anyone I work for Dr. Rodney McKay.

You have much more off-world experience than I do so I'm certain you would have faired better. Probably well enough to not get yourself almost killed thereby saving everyone a lot of trouble.

I think friends may be pushing it a little. But I do enjoy working with you. And this is long overdue but better late than never. I'm truly sorry for the thing with Dr. McGregor. Not least because before it all, Zelenka was one of the few individual's on this base whose company I could tolerate. It was a shame to lose that.

Ok now can we pretend that this evening never happened and go back to normal.
