We Can Rebuild Him

Jul 12, 2014 17:23

Well, after the disaster that was my first casting attempt in a long time, and thankfully being able to get a cast of the face (even if rushed under the circumstances of plaster of Paris going everywhere after the model collapsed) I managed to rebuild my VOC mask.

This time I made sure the armature is WATERPROOF before I began sculping! LOL And looking around and talking to a few wonderful folks, I have decided to do a freestanding pour onto my model instead of what I did--which was a wet and loose pour into a cradle with the model in it.

Anyway, because I had a mother mould of my face (as rough as it was) I got some fantastic stuff called Plastimake to begin the process all over again.

From there I placed the freshly cast face onto my armature and began adding the oil-based clay once more to sculpt.

Now, because the face was rough, I re-built some of it again. After a long afternoon of sculpting (and with a little fiddling to do tomorrow) I have once more completed my VOC robot which is now ready for casting :)

And this time I'm a LOT happier with the hair and the way the forehead turned out. Still got to work on those eyes :) But eyes are always the hardest.

Hopefully no disasters with the main casting this time, but I'll keep you updated :) Once cast I will use Plastimake to do the final part; as it's proven to be fantastic to use in moulds.

doctor who, casting, clay, d84, hoping it works, another attempt, re-build voc, another try, plaster, voc robot, ready for casting, cosplay, voc build, armature, armageddon 2014, costume
