For those of you who are obviously behind on barge etiquette, I would recommend pretending that the flood never happened. Never underestimate the power of repression. After all, no one likes to be reminded of that time that they spent a whole day acting ridiculously, even if it is preserved on the journals for prosperity ( Read more... )

you should all listen to me, science bb, do not want barge, properly paranoid, i'm obviously awesome, being prepared, eames is a secret policeman, last chance saving throw, fear toxin, good and bad in the same post, dealing with people is hard

Why do you care if anybody's spoken to Hayley? [Because LOL he doesn't know you two are BFFs.]

It's all those private filters they're rocking. doctor_j_crane December 31 2010, 04:18:19 UTC
That's my business. It doesn't matter anyway, since she's reportedly in a coma. [Crane: not about to keep this under wraps, because he's angry at Capa.]

Your oh, so private business that you decided to make a public post concerning. Of course.

Good, then you can leave her alone.

I'm sorry. I clearly should have asked everyone on the barge individually for information about her whereabouts. Because that wouldn't have had exactly the same effect as a public post.

Why are you so interested? What she does or doesn't do is none of your business.

You must be feeling exceptionally thick today if you can't think of another way of getting your question answered without inviting more questions. Well done, Crane.

Hm, now why would I be so interested when one of the most suspicious men on the Barge publicly asks after my former girlfriend's former inmate. [BECAUSE HE REFUSES TO SAY "FRIEND" IN PUBLIC.] What a puzzle... If only there was a doctor who specialized in the human mind around here.

You're assuming that more questions exist. There isn't a grand plot, Rex. Sometimes people just talk to each other like normal human beings. [Not that Crane has much experience with that himself.]

Your former girlfriend's former inmate? [Crane laughs.] Such a strong connection! What, did you get partial custody after the break up?

Ah, you're trying to be human now. How cute.

[SO MUCH GRITTING OF THE TEETH.] Fine, she's a friend.

[A FRIEND? REX SAID THE WORD. THE FORBIDDEN WORD. That Crane is avoiding using himself.] A friend? Who's trying to be human now, Rex?

[NO, IT BURNS. IT BURRRRNNNSSSSS.] Shocking. I know.

[AND WORSE, HE HAD THE OTHER TYPE OF FRIEND TOO.] A girlfriend and a friend. You're a regular social butterfly.

[STOP, NO MORE.] Yes. Perhaps I could give you some tips one day.

[Crane doesn't like Rex changing the game like that.] Tips? From you? I don't think so.

[Rex, meanwhile, LOVES IT.] Of course. Your pride... such as it is... wouldn't allow it. I understand.

[Crane can feel his lols.] Oh, please. I don't need help. I have perfectly adequate social skills.

Perfectly adequate. Such willingness to settle for mediocrity... [SHRUG.] But far be it from me to stop you. I'll leave you to your perfect adequacy.

Considering that I'm on better terms with Hayley than you are, my perfect adequacy must be superior to yours.
