I'm dazed and a little drunk. The movie was super-enjoyable, and then there was drinking to celebrate: apparently, a unanimous vote in favor of tenure, and even the dreaded "outside letters" (medievalists at other institutions, who can be a bitch) were uniformly positive.
Here's a note I received from a colleague when I came home tonight from a super-cranky old-fart professor I fear:
-------------
Congratulations on the tenure vote today. Our department is most fortunate to have you as a colleague. I was the teaching reporter today and was completely dazzled by your teaching prowess. At some point I shall share my report with you--and the report will be a substantive part of THE CHAIR'ss letter to you-- but now I want to say I am privileged to be your colleague. best,

Ok then.
Five more levels of scrutiny remain, including committees all the way up through the Provost and Trustees, but this is a good sign.
So, what's the rest of my life going to be like? So far, Cate Blanchett in "Elizabeth," a vodka gimlet and oysters with friends, not so shabby. I think this is the night to sit down and write my book acknowledgments.
hugs to all,
Dr. Diva
