Rapping Rhapsody

Mar 24, 2004 00:06

What's with hip-hop nowadays?  Is it just me, or is it turning for the worse?  Take, for example, "J-Kwon - Tipsy".  I'm sure many followers of the hip-hop genre will have heard this song by now.  If not, you can hear it on the local hit-radio station soon enough.  At first you'd think the song has a catchy beat, something you can "get down" to perhaps.  But let me tell you, after the second time hearing it you'll only come to realize its garbage can lids clashing together.  That's not all! J-Kwon himself is another mediocre rapper in the making.  Here's an excerpt of the lyrics:

"Yeeah, yeeah, yeeah, yo, 2 step with me, 2 step with me. 1, here comes the 2 to the 3 to the 4."

If I didn't know any better, I would say this is a subliminal message from the American Math Association.  What on earth possesses a rapper to sing about numbers?  For that answer, we'll ask the man acquainted with this type of problem: The Count!

"blah! I vant to rap like Veefty Cent!"

Shweta:  So, Count, what do you think about this new song by J-Kwon?

Count:  Dah, I think he's smoking too much ganji!

Shweta:  You don't say....

Count:  But I deenk I can make a better song, yah!

Shweta:  Oh really?  If you don't mind, can I hear some of your 'flows'?

Count:  Dah Dah ::tosses cape onto floor::

"Yah, yah, yah, yo 2 count with me, 2 add with me.  One, here comes the 2 to the 3 to the 4.  Five, better add sides, minus the 7.  Square the root, gimme the loot.  Nine and ten, Big Bird is on fire, he got laid by them hens.  Eleven, find the derivative sign. Twelve, Elmo getting tickled, he's gonna giggle till he dies."

Shweta:  Bravo! Bravo! Nicely done, Count.

Count:  Yah yah!

Shweta:  And I'm out!

I hope this entry can be appreciated, it took me forever-ever to write, especially since it all got erased when I was in the middle :-(

And today I am proud to say I reached my maximum intake capacity of chocolate.  Maximum Capacity should be a movie title.  It sounds like Minority Report or some-such.  But anyways, I am still on a run from the chocolate, its currently 1:20 in the morning and I am not very tired.  This is when researching for history comes in handy...
