Name: Seeing Stars
Fandom: Darker Than BLACK
Pairing: Nick/Hei
Genre: Artsy Romance and some Hei angst
Author's notes:
Allo allo. Been awhile since I posted here, haha. BUT I BRING STUFF OUT OF MY HEAD. So, this is my first time writing Darker Than BLACK fiction. It's bad, it's short, and it's pointless as all hell.

Enjoy.

When he first met him in that bright room full of expensive telescopes, Hei knew Nick was different. Maybe it was because of that look they shared. Half dead, half hopeful, and just a pinch desperate. Just one of the many things they had in comon.

It was different, but Hei couldn't afford to let his guard down.

-

When he first went to the roof with him on that cold night, Hei knew he could trust Nick. It was foolish, Hei thought in retrospect, but the way Nick in-trusted with his dream, showing him a glimpse of the old heaven they knew. It made Hei want to believe in that dream, want to have hope for a better future.

It was only Hei's jaded, cynical mind that kept him from really seeing stars. Nick just laughed about it.

-

When he first made love to him the last time they went to the roof, Hei thought he could believe, for at least those few scant moments. The coarse fabric of the standard issue rubbing his back raw, the heat of their bodies and efforts against the cold of the night, two desperate needs full of loneliness coming together. Full of passion and heat, so long ignored. Hei could forget about contractors, about the syndicate, about his mission.

Even Pai.

Just for one moment, looking past the shoulder of the man he clung to so harshly, to the sky that had suddenly filled with his old stars. Hei could almost believe.

-

When he first shed tears for him, Hei wasn't sure what to think anymore. He had stood there as he watched Nick die, believing he and his sister were going to that deep space he so dreamed to reach, thankful to Hei for believing in him. For letting him reach those precious stars.

Hei had curled up by the window when he returned to his empty flat, staring blankly up at the false sky. He was angry, he was furious. At himself for trusting someone so easily, angry at Nick for making him trust him. Angry for making him see those beautiful stars again.

The first had leaked silently, plopping quietly to the tatami mat. They wouldn't stop, no matter how much Hei wiped them away. He could only curl into his legs, saying nothing as his jeans soaked in those useless tears. He'd never see Nick anymore, he'd never see his old sky anymore.

He'd never believe, never let himself believe, anymore.
