What man in a gorilla suit? That was a little puppet-thing

This is from MODERN MECHANICS AND INVENTIONS for April 1933. I don't know where they got the idea that King Kong was going to be played by a man in a suit. Certainly I've watched the original way too many times and never seen a moment of gorilla suit tomfoolery. It's either the little puppets done stop-motion animation by Willis O'Brien or it was a brief glimpse of the full scale mechanical bust, foot and hand that they constructed. Maybe the film makers thought at first of using a man in a suit or maybe the magazine just got it wrong?
