Given another ten or twenty years Batman could be right.

Over here "shoot!" is a common bowdlerisation of "shit!", so it probably didn't indicate John wanted to kill anyone. Or did you think it was foreshadowing his future death?

In the States, you sometimes hear "Shoot!" as a substitute curse word. I don't know what Lennon had in mind, but considering how he met his end, it's a bit macabre.

Now I sort of hesitate to listen to "Happiness In a Warm Gun" again...
