More Vacuuming in the Barn, Telemarketing rant
If you’ve ever been responsible for rug cleanliness in our home, you know how to wield a vacuum cleaner around the floor. I would now ask you to consider the consequences if you also had to vacuum the walls and ceiling. That’s what’s needed in a horse stall and the adjacent aisle. My shoulders might recover in the next decade or so - but they’ll have to be ready by this time next year (that might happen). If I could use Mark Twain’s excellent suggestion via Tom Sawyer, I might get some muscular teen to do it and pay me for the opportunity (that might NOT happen). I’ve two more stalls and 2/3 the aisle to go. I vacuumed the first third of the aisle and all but the two bird nests in the tool room. Yes, I’m sore, tired, dust covered and - did I mention sore?
Even though I have posted my home phone on the “DO NOT CALL ME - EVER” list with the government, I still get the annoying calls telling me how well qualified I am for medicines (of all types), loans, reduced fees on Electricity, fuel oil, natural gas (is there an un-natural gas?).
My best, most polite request of the caller is their name as in “Who’s calling please?” If I don’t get a reply, then I know it is a RoboCall - and can hang up with impunity. If I get a name, I then ask about the agency they represent. If it is not a local charity, or from organizations that I support, I’ll add, “Take my name off your list. Don’t ever call me back,” and then I hang up.
It appears that nothing really works well enough to keep the calls away. My efforts seem to have the same effect as bug repellant - that works for 15 seconds and then I’m back to swatting things - sigh - .
I have used the FTC.gov website (see below) and the process is painless and took less than 15 seconds. I have used it before. I think the ink may have faded since the last registration. I’ll report back if I see success (or not).
More later,
Doc
