Two Feet of Snow and Cold

Dec 22, 2008 22:37

As if the Ice Storm of 2008 wasn’t enough for New Hampshire, we received TWO, count them (or not), two snowstorms in as many days. Friday’s storm took three hours with snow blower and shovel to clear away and then on Sunday, there were blizzard warnings all around. We had four inches in less than two hours. In the time that it took to clear the front door and the deck, we had four more inches right where I had cleared it. I cut house exits through the snow and fell into bed exhausted. Talk about a “White Christmas” - Oh we have that and more. We have rain and sleet scheduled for Wednesday. This comes under the heading of the Winter Weather Medley. I just hope that the rain stays away. I figure, once we have the snow on the ground, let us not fill line air spaces with fresh water that will make snowy into slippery/dangerous.

The longest night, shortest day have come and gone. We’re into the second longest night and second shortest day - and the days now get longer. The weatherman was discussing how the mornings and evening twilights are actually moving more than the spread - if that makes sense. All I know is that I’m ready for some longer days, and I’ll get them for six months. I’m a happier lad with more sun than dark (that happens in March).

The dogs love the snow. Two black dogs in the snow are easy to follow. It’s not that they stand out against white (they do!) it’s that they really love to play in the snow. Lizzie loves to “Snow Dive”. This is a four-legged leap up and slightly forward with muzzle down. She is trying to trap rodents under her front paws. What it really does is put her face into the snow such that when she comes up for air - which she does with some reluctance, she presents the world with a snow-covered muzzle that contrasts well with her jet-black coat. If she’s playing when I have a camera handy, it’s a show to see and I’ll post it.

More Later,
