Potboiler

I'm not tripping too much about the Netherlands "pot ban." I have faith that Amsterdam will find away around it just as they've spent hundreds of years finding ways around other things that cost them money.

As Robert Baratheon once said, let's also ban eating, shitting, and breathing ...

drugs, amsterdam

Don't worry about the pot ban ext_1185058 April 29 2012, 12:20:35 UTC
They are not going to forbid it ( thank Bastet), they are just turning coffee-shops into a members only club ( 2000 members max, only Dutch passport holders) which makes this plan about as stupid as outlawing it. Also for now it is only for the border 'provincies' in the south where lots of French and Belgian 'tourists' buy their smokes. After a few months/a year, they will evaluate and see if its introduced for the rest of the country.
Mayors of most of the cities with coffee-shops have spoken out against the introduction of the 'wietpas'

Are our politicians that stupid they don't realize this will greatly boost street sales and give a vast increase in crime, annoyance and of course a rise in the number of substance abuse? Then again, maybe they DO realize all that and actually want it to happen to they can point to the increase in crime etc. and use that as an excuse to ban it all together.

One last advice, when in Amsterdam, for the love of cats, don't go to the tourist places for your alternative smoking needs. i won't name any, but being a cat lover you don't want to go to places named after dog breeds. Doing that would be like going to Italy and ordering pizza at Pizza-hut. Ask a local where they would go, but you probably don't need to go much further then a few streets away from the tourist area's.

This is all good to hear from an actual Dutch person! I understand the "logic" of the province ban due to smuggling, but can't see any reason it should apply to Amsterdam or any good way to enforce it there.

Hate the Bulldog! Had a "Nepalese temple ball" there once that tasted like burning rubber -- never again! Some of my favorites are the Grey Area, the Green House, the Green Place, Basjoe ... Barney's ...aaaahhhh ... sigh.
