THE FOSSILS ARE IN! THE FOSSILS ARE IN!!

Okay, only half are in but still, fossil loan!!!

One of the research projects I've been kicking around since the last days of my dissertation and graduation have focused on a specimen of Mylodon (which was mislabeled as Glossotherium) that has associated post-cranial elements. Half my dissertation was trying to determine how Glossotherium differed from Paramylodon, but the issue was always a tad confuddled by the lack of knowledge as to what exactly constituted the taxa by their post-crania characters. The best way to address would be comparison with specimens from South America or a few over on Copenhagen but that kind of travel hasn't been feasible for many years. What is finally making this project possible to move forward on is the discovery of a nearly complete set of corresponding elements of Glossotherium (these are mislabeled as Mylodon, go figure) from Yale. Both sets of fossils are being loaned to me so I can do an actual on the spot comparison and some other studies (3D scanning!). So the ones that arrived yesterday are those from Yale, and the ones I'm still waiting on are from the Field Museum. It's going to be an exciting summer!
