The police academy civil service exam draws ever closer. this coming saturday. I had to get rid of the outstanding traffic tickets because the background check would be halted as long as there was an open case attached to those tickets. I was guilty of the expired break tag but definitely not guilty of driving without insurance. I was basically told I would have to plead guilty or not guilty to both. I explained my situation to the judge, informing him that I had an app to the police academy in the oven and had to resolve it now. he took a look at my insurance card and wrote something in my file. my guess is that he basically attached something to keep it off my driving record. of course I still had to pay 209 bucks. which sucks but at least the background check can go forward as planned after I take the exam.

In other positive job related news, I was just informed that the company's hurricane response team, for which I was the first to sign on, is "very likely to be called up this weekend." Depending on where gustav hits, I'll either be working here with a lot of people from other branches who will come in, or I'll be going somewhere else with people from lots of other branches. During this time I'll be payed for 87 hours per week at around 20/hour plus per diem rates and travel expenses. Food and lodging will be provided. I hate to benefit from a tragedy, but not enough to say no. This hurricane could very well provide me with a serious windfall, no pun intended.

In other news, in case anyone is interested, Waterman found himself a nice new place. Its a little one bedroom apartment with more than sufficient storage space for both his booze and his clothes. In John's mind, if a choice had to be made he would go naked and stay drunk. Scary thought. He was generous enough to leave his xbox 360 with me so I could finish the knights of the old republic and try out The Godfather and Hitman. It has been 2 days since he moved in but I've talked to him and seen him on a daily basis since. He informed me today that all police academy leaves are cancelled, and if Gustav hits they will be required to stay as well.

Waterman vacated my living room couch just in time for Drew's triumphant return to NOLA. he will be working his bartending gig over decadence weekend. might be stuck here for Gustav though if it hits. he may have been better off staying in shreveport. we shall see. Frankly I dont think there's that huge a chance it will hit us directly, and its also unlikely it will be that strong by the time it makes landfall. My living room is getting to be a regular hotel. the hotel de Jon. its cozy, I suppose, but the housekeeping leaves something to be desired. I'd say thats my bad, but bert deserves some credit as well. We're both sort of pathologically male bachelors. Bert is even more of a veteran than I am, validating every stereotype down to the regular consumption of tv dinners. Drew is really no better. Based on stereotypes you would think that as a gay man Drew would be neat and fastidious. Not so much. His old place in the quarter looked like a nuclear bomb had gone off there.

Thats about all the news thats fit to print right now. More updates as interesting things happen.
