Character Name: Jason Grace
Character Series: The Heroes of Olympus : The Lost Hero | Percy Jackson-verse
Character Age: 15/16
Background: 1 & 2
Personality:Authority. Humor. Perseverance. Mercy. Dignity. Discipline. Tenacity. Humanity. Industriousness. Justice. Prudence. Hopefulness. Truthfulness. Valor. These were the ingredients necessary to make the perfect Roman half-blood. But the goddess Hera purposefully added an extra ingredient-memory loss. Thus, Jason Grace’s adventure begins…

Perhaps the most important aspect of Jason Grace’s personality is that even he isn’t sure what his personality is. Since waking up on a bus en-route to the Grand Canyon, Jason has been completely without memory. What this means for his personality is that he acts and behaves largely off of instinct. Much of what he knows and thinks comes from experiences he does not actively remember, and so he often doesn’t have an explanation for the way he responds to things. He is, effectively, a blank slate.

That being said, as Jason flounders through the world around him his personality does begin to develop. He quickly begins to fall into what one might consider a natural “hero” persona; he is brave, amiable, and loyal to a fault. Perhaps the only thing missing from this formula is a sense of confidence or arrogance; Jason can be very mild and uncertain at times. However, as his adventure progresses and he grows more into himself, Jason acquires a sort of casual ease that leads into a confidence in himself, his abilities, and his friends.

It can be said that Jason is a natural leader; he has a good sense of the people around him and knows how to keep everyone engaged and happy. This was demonstrated when he embarked on a quest with Piper Mclean and Leo Valdez; both of his teammates had various issues and obstacles to contend with, but Jason managed to keep them together in order to complete their quest. While he is good at making decisions and giving directions, Jason is also very understanding and open, ready to listen to the opinions of those around him. This sense of leadership may come from being a son of Jupiter, but Jason is decidedly more open to complaint and competition that his father.

Maybe it comes from having no memory, but Jason can be devastatingly naïve. He has walked into a trap more than once, and tends to be a bit too open-minded and trusting. However, it is important to note that it isn’t often that he makes the same mistake twice. He demonstrates a deep sense of justice and morality, and he seems to genuinely want what’s best for those around him and not just himself. He is more than willing to put himself in harm’s way for the sake of his friends, which could be considered both a virtue and a flaw.

On the surface, Jason is polite, dedicated, and focused. He never seems to want to impose on those around him, but once he has a goal in mind he is persistent in pursuing it. However, there is a side to Jason which is much harsher. This persona is only hinted at in some of Jason’s memories and actions; for instance, when battles the giant Porphyrion, he takes on a fierce tone as he declares himself a son of Jupiter and praetor of the First Legion. It is also mentioned that the Roman camp for half-bloods, where Jason was raised, is much harsher than Camp Half-Blood. So the person Jason was before he lost his memories could potentially have been much stronger, even meaner than the personality Jason exhibits now.

By the time The Lost Hero ends, Jason has definitely begun to grow into himself. Having regained a few shards of his memories, he’s at a transitional stage between the naïve, experience-less boy he was recently, and the confident leader he was in the past. He truly does exemplify Roman virtue, particularly those of justice, humility, mercy, and trustworthiness. However, despite these being considered “virtues”, they do open up weaknesses in Jason’s personality. Naivety is one thing, but Jason can also be so duty-bound as to be inflexible or imprudent. He doesn’t seem to value himself as one would expect from a supposed hero.

All in all, Jason is a kid with good intentions who seems to be thrown into difficult situations. He’s confused more often than not, but he has a deeply-ingrained sense of decency and justice that usually guides him to try to do the right thing.

Abilities:↠ As a son of Jupiter, Jason has access to a small fraction of his godly father's abilities. Namely, these include being able to manipulate lightning and air currents. Jason can effectively fly, create and direct lightning strikes, and is immune to electric shocks.
↠ Having been raised and trained at the Roman half-blood camp, Jason has an extensive knowledge of the Roman aspect of gods. He can also speak Latin, and has training in the Roman style of directing and fighting in battle. Essentially, he knows how to head a legion.
↠ Jason has also demonstrated great abilities as a melee warrior. He has shown proficiency with both short and long-range weapons, namely a sword and javelin. His current weapon of choice is a gladius.
↠ It is worth mentioning that Jason fought and defeated the Titan Krios in single combat. The only other half-blood to have directly fought and defeated a Titan and survived is Percy Jackson.

Sample Entry: [ As he’s speaking, Jason doesn’t exactly sound sad. Rather, he’s incredibly pensive, and almost seems unaware that he’s speaking aloud. ]

So, I guess I was a bit too distracted to notice it before-honestly, can you really blame me?-but I don’t have my tattoo anymore.

[ Here he lets out a laugh and looks up, as though finally realizing there may be people around him. ]

Oh, if you didn’t know, it was here. [ He pulls up his sleeve to indicate his shoulder. ] Lines back and forth, the letters SPQR, and an eagle.

[ After tracing out where the tattoo would have been, Jason pulls his sleeve down and lets out a huff. ]

I mean, it’s not really the worst thing to have happened to me. But even when I had no idea, about anything, I still had that tattoo. It was-a reminder, I guess? Proof that I belonged somewhere.

[ Now he runs one hand through his hair and lets out a laugh, as though attempting to dispel the gloomy atmosphere. ]

It’s funny though, isn’t it? Even though it was a symbol of discipline, I don’t think tattoos of any kind would fly, here. I’d hate to see how they’d react to it at the school, or even just out in town.

Then again, it might’ve been interesting.
