[Hi there Jason, meet your new father. He found your initial little outburst amusing enough, but it seems like his "wife" might have that taken care of at the moment. But he is interested in what you might be doing outside, and what might not be working. It'd be better to know what you can do soon, after all.

He'll just calmly walk up behind you, stopping a few feet away, hands clasped behind his back. If you wish to think you're a soldier from what he heard during your outburst in the morning, and who knows, you very well might be, he'll attempt to treat you as one.]

What might be the problem, praetor?

[No condescending. No attempt to treat him like a child. The child definitely would probably become hostile then, and that would gain him nothing at the moment.]

( Jason hasn't had much, if any, experience with adults. Unless you count a giant wolf goddess, but he isn't sure you would. So with a bit of belligerence he crosses his arms across his chest and glares, openly. )

I can't fly.

[The Major probably would, considering supernatural beings are far from something new to him. Flight doesn't tell him much about what Jason could possibly be, but it apparently wasn't an offensive power, not that that could make the boy any less dangerous, especially if he was expected to live with him.]

That is a pity. It is a wonderful feeling, to be up in the sky.

Have you only just arrived here?

Ye--no--I don't remember. But if this is a quest, I'll complete it. For sure.

( He shakes his head a little at that--because he's always wanted to go on a quest, but this seems a bit extreme. )

That is an excellent attitude to have. Any soldier, no matter what their task, should strive for victory.

Victory is the only thing that matters. And honor. But mostly victory.

...who're you, anyway?

[A wider grin. Good attitude boy. Maybe he might even find a use for you, if that ever becomes feasible or necessary.]

Victory IS important. Even more then honor. But there is something even more important for a soldier to consider when they go into battle.

I am known as the Major. What might your name be, praetor?

Major...like an army major, or something?

I'm Jason. Son of Jupiter. Juno chose me as her champion.

Correct.

Oh, the queen of the gods. Quite a task, to become her champion.

[He doesn't really care. He doesn't necessarily disbelieve Jason. But at the same time, gods have never held much interest to him.]

But a major's not as good as a general, is it?

...I can handle it.

In general, no. But sometimes a lower officer might prove himself more competent then even a general, should the general prove to be a coward or a fool.

Good.

If you were more competent, you'd rise in rank. But if it's like you say, then your army isn't good. At all.

[He just laughs at that. His laughter isn't pleasant, and borders on madness, but it isn't exactly hostile, and it definitely isn't forced. He's honestly both amused and impressed, though tact isn't something children tend to possess to begin with.]

Ah. A good point. However, there are some factors that can come into play, that happen so rarely, that can make further ascent impossible. At least officially.

But no. You're quite correct. Do you know the next step, then? What happens, when a general should prove himself incompetent, or paralyzed by fear to move? What would you do to such an officer?

( Jason gives him a quizzical look, but he's not perceptive enough to notice anything really wrong. So he merely shrugs. )

You get rid of them.

That is absolutely correct.

I know that. That's why I said it.
