Dijit You could get a lot done in 30 minutes.
Me Yeah, but those 30 minutes gotta be right before class.
...
There are 5 varieties of chess pieces. Each have a set pattern, use, etc. And it's quite easy to pick up chess over one afternoon, maybe even beat some novices at it. It's the same way with Japanese. Learn some particles, demonstratives, and the verb iu ("to say"), and you can feign proficiency. This equals this, that equals that.
Nothing tricky.
Errr... I'm in the last Japanese class required for a Japanese major. And my homeworks sometime take me 2 hours to read. A sentence from tonight's homework:
しかし「分相応」だけでいいのかというこれも問題がある.
Yeah, I'm not sure what "で" was doing there, and "の" + "か" is a bit of a mystery... and it was kinda shitty figuring out what all the rest meant.
When you're a beginner Japanese students, you can pull a few tricks out of your ass, like English mastery + good guessing skills. But when you're facing real Japanese, those basic pieces of the language will own your soul faster than you can saw "two-move-checkmate."
And because I suck, I will continue writing shitty analogies, like chess + Japanese.
