Last night was so much fun! We opened up the bottle of wine that my mom has been saving for Amy for 6 years now - the bottle that is 21 years old, just like Amy! She had some friends come over and we all sat around chatting until well after 1am. It was funny to watch Abel and Brandon have a silent dick-measuring contest over my sister, and I really enjoyed Jordan and Lei Anne's company. Lei Anne is from London (all of these people are actors, bear in mind) so her vivacity combined with her accent made her magnetism that much more intense. Finally FINALLY Amy has some friends that I like hanging out with. w00t
Today we woke up early so that we could get downtown before the flower market closed their doors at noon. Again, the sensational aroma led us to the warehouses where miles upon miles of fresh cut flowers invited everyone to come in and enjoy. Rainbows of color decorated each divided section and people meandered carelessly through the maze of orchids, carnations, roses, and marigolds. I came away with a much anticipated bonsai plant this morning. Now all I have to do is learn how to take care of it! Perhaps that will warrant a trip to the local bookstore, where I can pick up a copy of Dan Brown's other Robert Langdon series novels. The Da Vinci Code is absolutely riveting! A wonderful piece of fiction that keeps the pages turning at record speed.
After the flower market, we decided to keep on shopping for awhile. We walked through the textiles district, then on to the fashion district (a.k.a. "Little Mexico) where we wound up spending most of our morning. Mom found a pink purse (don't ask!) and I got some jewelry - everything there is so cheap! So we enjoyed walking around exploring things until about 2pm when we decided to find the car since we were all tired, hot and hungry. We took a detour and didn't wind up back at the parking garage until about 2:30, and everything was locked up securely. A sense of panic rose in all 3 of us as we got to the main door and read the sign that said the garage closes at 1:30 on Saturdays. After calling the number on our voucher ticket, we learned that those unfortunate patrons who were stupid enough not to see the fine print on the sign were stuck - their cars would remain locked in the garage until Monday morning. After dealing with the crowds of rude passersby in Little Mexico and not getting much sleep last night, none of us were in the mood to deal with this. Not to mention the fact that the flower market isn't exactly in the cleanest or safest part of town.
The 3 of us stood there, feeling very frustrated and vulnerable while the homeless people flocked toward us and begged for money. I became very uncomfortable as Mom and Amy were making calls trying to figure out what our options were. Just then, we were approached by a guy who seemed to know the scoop. We told him that our car was locked inside, and he pointed out the garage keeper just a half a block away. We told him what happened and he opened up the door so that we could get out. Nobody wants to be responsible for the tears of a beautiful young woman crying on her 21st birthday, so we were on our way in less than an hour.

It's SO HOT HERE! I can't say that I'll be sorry to get back to Denver's mild weather and noticeable lack of humidity. ~ And now, off to get cleaned up and prepared for Amy's debut to the bar scene as a legal adult with drinking rights!
