"To dream of a person you would like to be is to waste the person you are" - Anonymous

Everything was finally starting make sense. All his life, Peter had known what people wanted. He knew what they wanted him to be, what they expected him to achieve. He knew that he could and would never be exactly like Nathan, who was going to be exactly like his father. According to his mother, though, Peter’s “delusions of grandeur” were now lining him up to follow in his father’s footsteps in a completely different way. What his mother didn’t understand, what none of them understood, was that he didn’t need to try to be a person they would like him to be. He was finally starting to realize that he himself had a purpose, and that no decision in his life has been without a reason or a deeper meaning behind it. Once he had read Chandra Suresh’s book about human evolution and met his geneticist son, Mohinder, it was all starting to make sense. He, Peter Petrelli, had a purpose all his own. If he had become what they wanted him to be, another lawyer, he never would have discovered his empathic nature, and would never become as important as Peter knew he could be. His whole reason for going to nursing school had been about helping people, saving them.

Now he was starting to realize that he could help people, save them, maybe even save the world, but he had to embrace his own nature and recognize that these things were happening to him for a reason. His powers manifested in the way that they did because of who he truly was, not who he was supposed to be. He was doing what he was supposed to be doing. He was who he was supposed to be. He had a purpose and destiny as great as he had always imagined. He could save the world, just by being who he had always been.
