Ilia was walking to the spring when she saw Epona waiting at the gate.

She brushes her hand along the mare's neck, and spots Link a moment later.

Her heart drops and she thinks about turning around and disappearing down the path when Epona nickers at her loudly.

Link turns and sees Ilia standing there. He looks surprised for a moment, but then smiles softly at his old friend.

"Ilia...hi."

"...Hi." she says quietly, walking over to the edge of the spring.

Her heart was pounding in her ears, she thought she would have at least gotten to think about this before she had to talk to him again...

He looks up at her.

"Been a while. I've been meaning to visit more often..."

She falls silent before she has the courage to look down at him.

Those eyes...

"We got your letter." She looks away from him, back to the spring.

He sighs slightly. This was a conversation he expected to have when he came here.

"I assumed so. The courier I sent is one of the fastest around." If a bit...odd.

"Was it too far for you to come yourself?" she asks, her tone harsh and accusatory.

He turns to look at her. His tone was less harsh, but he didn't appreciate the connotations of her tone.

"I have responsibilities at the castle. I can't just ignore them, even if I want to."

He sighs again, a bit calmer now. "Besides, I'm here now, aren't I?"

"Responsibilities, you were responsible for us once, for your family..." For me. she stares down at him.

"You're here NOW, but why couldn't you at least have come and told me in person THEN?!" She was getting upset, and hadn't meant to say that much.

As angry as she was at him, she couldn't stop herself from crying about all of this.

Link stands up and puts a gentle hand on her shoulder. He always hated to see her cry.

"I'm sorry, okay?" he says quietly. "I wanted to come sooner. I really did."

"I just thought...thought that you would come back here once things were sorted out..." she looks up at him, her face was calm but tears were still streaming down her face. "I didn't think you were going to stay...to get married..." she mumbles.

"Link...I..." she looks up at him and can't finish the sentence before choking on more tears, looking anywhere but into his eyes.

He brings a hand up to her cheek to wipe away some of her tears.

He smiles in an attempt to cheer her up. "C'mon, you know me. When have I ever done anything halfway?"

She looks up at him.

When you let me fall in love with you, then left me here...

She puts her hand over his hand on her cheek, closing her eyes.

He moves a little closer and hugs her. He would always get upset himself whenever she cried like this.

"I'm sorry, okay? I was stupid. Forgive me."

She leans against him, letting her head fall against his chest.

Married. He was getting married.

She shakes her head. "No." she answers quietly. "It was my fault for falling in love with you." she murmurs, pulling away. She didn't want to be near him like this. She turns and starts walking toward the village.

He stares in shock for a moment as she walks away. He had always suspected. He even harbored some feelings for her, from before everything.

"Ilia, wait!" he said, taking a step forward and holding out a hand towards her. "Please?"
