Quick background: I have my own show on a local radio station. We're unique in that we let the DJ's pick out their own music and the shows have a variety of formats (we have a blues show, a Celtic show, a zydeco show, etc. Mine is what I like to call "attention deficit radio": You're likely to hear everything from the Ramones to Duke Ellington to Dukas on my show). One of the things I like to do is create a theme show: story songs, depressing songs, murder ballads (this one's very popular). In going through some CDs I ran across an old Billy Joel song and realized that the lyrics fit our dear Dr. Crane quite nicely.

The song is "The Stranger" (it's a good song; take a listen) and here are some lyrics:
Well we all have a face
That we hide away forever
And we take them out and
Show ourselves
When everyone has gone
Some are satin some are steel
Some are silk and some are leather
They're the faces of the stranger
But we love to try them on.

You may never understand
How the stranger is inspired
But he isn't always evil
And he is not always wrong
Though you drown in good intentions
You will never quench the fire
You'll give in to your desire
When the stranger comes along.
