Figure You Out and it's brilliance. Brilliance, I say. It's cute and mind-reading and READ IT!
Pairing:Bob/Gerard
As far as he knows, Bob's always been able to read minds. It's not spectacularly difficult and it's not like he hears everyone all the time. Just when he wants to know what someone is thinking about.
He's learnt not to bother with Frank, because whenever he seems down, it's about not seeing Jamia enough. Mikey talks about his feelings, so there's no need to bother and Ray told him that if he ever found out Bob was doing it to him, Bob would find himself without balls.
He's never really needed to for anyone else, but he likes to check in on Gerard occasionally, just to make sure that he's ok. Usually he is, and Bob can tell whether he needs attention anyway, so there isn't much need for it.
But Bob liked to get lost in Gerard's mind. Sometimes, he just starts talking about things and whilst everyone sits there unaware of what's actually going on, Bob knows. Bob's been listening for hours to this train of thought.
Gerard knows that Bob listens. Bob's almost certain of that. He's learnt that you can't connect to someone else's mind without them noticing. He also knows that if they don't really want you there, they can kick you out. But Gerard never has, mostly because his thoughts aren't really all that private. If he could just keep talking to people about his brain sludge, he would.
So when Gerard does shove Bob out, he's confused. He looks over to Gerard, who's sitting on the other side of the dressing room and sees him shifting uncomfortably. He sends out a thought to Gerard 'Dude, you ok?', something he's never particularly liked doing. That really is an invasion of privacy.
But there are people in the room, and this looks like something that Gerard doesn't want to discuss around people he barely knows. He knows Gerard can't send anything back, but watches him nod a little, without looking up.
Later, when he tries again, Gerard lets him in, no questions asked. He listens to the man ramble about nothing, and he can't help wanting to ask what was going on earlier.
The second time it happens, Bob actually asks Gerard what's going on. They're the only two in the room, but Gerard still jumps a little at the blatant question. Instead of answering, he opened his mind so that Bob could get inside. He watched the visions like they were right in front of his eyes and suddenly understood.
Bob just smiled and opened his own head, just for Gerard.
A/N: I'm not sure that made all that much sense. But there it is.
